POSITION SUMMARY:
The Instructional Assistant in the Unaccompanied Childrens program provides support to the teaching team in a classroom environment assists in classroom activities and completes clerical responsibilities. The Instructional Assistant works in one of three Maryville Learning Centers and reports to a classroom teacher. The position is a grant position as funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement and any successor funding.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists teachers in Maryvilles Learning Center classrooms throughout the school day;
- Takes classroom attendance on an hourly basis;
- Completes all required logs forms and reports;
- Assists the classroom teacher with class including but not limited to photocopying preparation of learning packages and classroom set-up;
- Provides tutoring as required by student need under the supervision of teacher;
- Grades student quizzes and classroom work when required by teacher;
- Organizes intake assessments progress reports and final reports related to student academic performance;
- Maintains orderly digital and paper filing systems;
- Follows Maryvilles policies and procedures as well as all standard operating procedures for the Unaccompanied Children Program;
- Conducts oneself as a role model for the children/youth;
- Adheres to programs Zero Tolerance of Sexual Abuse policy;
- Provides consistent line of sight supervision of youth;
- Provide safe transportation of child/youth as needed on campus and to approved learning sites;
- Assists in crisis management through de-escalation and if necessary physical restraint;
- Attends a minimum of 40 hours advanced training/workshops on an annual basis;
- Performs other duties / functions as requested by supervisory personnel.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience:
- High School diploma or GED equivalency required; Associate Degree preferred;
- State Approved Paraprofessional License preferred.
- A minimum of 1-2 years experience in classroom/school setting.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Bilingual English/Spanish language competency required;
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
- Basic computer proficiency including working knowledge of MS Word Excel and PowerPoint;
- Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
Salary Range: $$45000 - $49000 a year.
Physical Demands:
- Required to frequently sit stand bend stoop walk and drive for extended periods; ability to walk up and down stairs;
- Required to occasionally lift/move objects and/or youth weighing in excess of 40 pounds;
- Must possess the ability to provide physical restraint for students threatening to harm themselves or others;
- Must have the visual hearing and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential functions defined above.
Environment and Scheduling:
- Work is performed during school days and hours;
- Work is performed in classroom and gym settings educational field trip sites and administrative office settings;
- Duties involve contact with students from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

All employees who have access to health information whose confidentiality is protected by the HIPAA Privacy Rule are required by the Rule to receive training so that they have an understanding and knowledge of the Privacy Rule that corresponds to their job responsibilities and of the group health plans policies and procedures that impact on their job duties. Site specific training on requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule and the plans health information policies and procedures under the direction of the plan privacy officer may be required for this position based upon site specific requirements. Employees who violate the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule will be subject to discipline up to and including termination.
