Job Summary

Summary

The School Social Worker provides direct and indirect services to support scholars social emotional behavioral and academic success. The School Social Worker collaborates with staff families and community agencies to remove barriers to learning and promote a safe supportive school environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Support

  • Provide individual and small-group counseling to scholars.
  • Conduct social-emotional and behavioral assessments as part of MTSS RTI and special education evaluations.
  • Develop and implement intervention plans to address attendance behavior crisis and mental health needs.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support during emergencies.
  • Monitor progress of scholars receiving Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.

Special Education & Compliance

  • Participate in CSE/IEP meetings and contribute social history reports.
  • Complete mandated social history evaluations and updates.
  • Support implementation of IEP counseling mandates.
  • Ensure compliance with district state and federal regulations.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Serve as a liaison between school home and community agencies.
  • Conduct home visits as needed.
  • Connect families to outside resources (mental health services housing food assistance etc.).
  • Facilitate parent workshops related to social-emotional wellness and family support.

Schoolwide Support

  • Collaborate with administrators teachers and support staff to develop behavior plans.
  • Participate in School-Based Support Team (SBST) and MTSS meetings.
  • Assist in attendance improvement initiatives and chronic absenteeism reduction.
  • Support implementation of schoolwide social-emotional learning (SEL) programs.
  • Contribute to positive school climate initiatives.

Documentation & Data

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records.
  • Track counseling sessions interventions and outcomes.
  • Use data to inform decision-making and intervention planning.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of child development and trauma-informed practices.
  • Knowledge of MTSS/RTI frameworks.
  • Ability to conduct assessments and write comprehensive reports.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage crisis situations calmly and effectively.
  • Commitment to equity and culturally responsive practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in urban or diverse school settings.
  • Experience supporting scholars with disabilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move throughout the building.
  • Ability to conduct home visits when necessary.
