About Alternative Family Services
Alternative Family Services is a Foster Family Adoption and Mental Health Agency that has been serving abused and neglected children in our community since 1973. Our mission is to support vulnerable children and families in need of stability safety and well-being in communities. We provide a wide range of foster adoption mental health and transition-aged youth services in English and Spanish. We have eight locations throughout the Bay Area and 200 employees. About the BOD Member Opportunity
AFS is currently seeking additional members for its Board of upholding our commitment to a diverse board of professional and personal experience we welcome candidates whose backgrounds reflect the primary populations we serve particularly communities of color and who provide diversity of professional and personal experience needed to help AFS to make the best decisions.
Our Board members are active contributing leaders in include attendance at sixBoard meetings during the year fundraising events as well as an annual one-day Board retreat. Most of our board meetings are held addition each Board member serves on two of our four board committees (AuditFinance Programs and Resource Development) and will also chair a committee depending our your members also provide ad-hoc advice on various business mattersbased on their individual areas of expertise. The time commitment for all activities varies but has historically averaged around6-10 hours a month. Our Board fully participates in fundraising through acquiring donations from individuals corporations and grants working as a team to remove any potential barriers. We look for dedication and commitment to our mission of providing support forchildren and families in need of safety stability and well-being in a culturally competent andcollaborative way.
