CLASS TITLE: Academy Coach
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under the general supervision of the high school executive principal and in close consultation with the Convening Org Community Coordinator the MCHS Academy Coach will provide leadership and support for the implementation and sustainability of the high school career academies. The MCHS Academy Coach will focus on college and career readiness for all students and this will be achieved through a strategic and collaborative system aligning school initiatives district supports industry partners community organizations and post-secondary institutions as prescribed in the community developed strategic plan for the implementation of McCracken County High School career academies. The MCHS Academy Coach will be an integral member of the school leadership team supporting career academy implementation and coordinating and monitoring the continuous improvement of the academies with school level administration and teaching staff.
BASIC REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work directly with community partners which includes on-going
communication with all partners to ensure meaningful engagement
- Visit community partners places of business to build and deepen relationships and grow levels of partnership engagement.
- Position will collaborate with all academy leadership to collect and analyze all business engagement data and ensure it is shared with convening organization and other partners as needed.
- Plan and host an annual community partner appreciation event for all partners at the end
of each school year
- Work closely with convening partner regarding engagement workforce development and work-based learning data advisory boards community
partnership agreements and experiential learning opportunities
- Co-chair advisory boards for assigned academy in accordance with the advisory
board bylaws which includes plans for four meetings per year
District Meetings/Training/Professional Learning:
- Attend training for various leadership team roles to include master scheduling
school improvement plan district master plan etc. to be prepared to partner
assist and/or advise administrators with normal management functions
- Attend all district meetings that include representation for your academies
- Represent Academies of MCHS at networking events when needed
- Work with MCHS Communications and Marketing to advocate for and educate about the Academies of MCHS via various media
platforms to students families staff and the community.
School/Academy:
- Attend all weekly academy team meetings to support progress monitoring of highly effective teaming support experiential learning opportunities and project based learning teaching
through the lens of the academy etc.
- Jointly plan with the Academy Principals the Annual Planning Retreat
- Maintain a close knowledge of and working relationship with academy teams
without being involved in the duties of day-to-day operations of the academies
- Coordinate and ensure participation of experiential learning opportunities for all
academies including but not limited to career expo college visits guest
speakers coordinated site visits job shadows teacher externships
- Coordinate the Academy Annual Review with each academy leadership team
- Meet weekly with academy team leads to ensure completion and
submission of annual action plans and calendar of events.
- Work with academy team leads and academy principals to ensure proper
spending of academy budgets
- Coordinate and monitor progress for teacher externships to help ensure the right
teachers are on the teams and commit to the community partner experience
- Facilitate and work with school staff to plan and implement the annual Academy
Showcase school tours and related academy recruitment
events
- Hold all pathway teacher meetings three times per year (start middle and end of
school year) to inform consult and evaluate
- Meet one time per month with Community Coordinator to align initiatives including but not limited to experiential learning opportunities and project based learning
- Serve as the point person for the Academies of MCHS Ambassador program
and serve as coordinator for all ambassador-related events
- Serve on the school leadership team to align Academies of MCHS district
initiatives with the school improvement plan
- Offer guidance to the master scheduling team for academy considerations
student voice and choice and academy/pathway purity
- Communicate academy information with MCHS and MCPS Public Relations and Communications in regards to Community Engagement at least monthly
- Work with Executive Principal to on-board support and mentor new academy principals academy counselors academy team leads and academy teachers to the academy model
- Collaborate with Freshman Academy Principal Counselor and Team Leads to identify JAG roster
- Collaborate with College and Career programs and curriculum within the 3 post-secondary academies of MCHS
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- Interest and desire to promote the Academies of MCHS internally and externally
- Working knowledge of curriculum assessment instruction and career and/or
college readiness and preparation
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple
audiences including faculty staff students families community partners
- Excellent oral written communication facilitation and collaboration skills
- Strong technology skills
- Ability to produce analyze interpret and summarize data
- Ability to interpret policy and procedures
- Demonstrate effective organizational skills and project management
- Ability to evaluate programs and practices and develop short and long term academy goals
- Knowledge and understanding of master schedule
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Five years of successful teaching experience
- Must hold valid Kentucky Department of Education teaching license
- One year of experience working with businesses community agencies and
post-secondary institutions
- One year experience serving in a leadership capacity preferred
