Job Summary

An integral part of the Premier Leagues work is to be a Force for Good in both the communities we operate in and within our wider reach. As part of this ambition the Premier League is looking for an experienced environmental sustainability manager to support the Head of Sustainability in implementing the Premier Leagues sustainability strategy initially for a period of 12 months.
The Sustainability Manager will lead on sustainability operations working with the Head of Sustainability on the delivery of internal programmes to help the Premier League meet its environmental commitments. These include the development of a management system for the Premier Leagues business building the companys Climate Transition Plan rolling out staff training managing reporting processes and improving emissions data collection capabilities.

With the growing climate crisis and related issues of environmental quality and resource efficiency we are committed to taking forward an ambitious programme covering these issues as soon as possible.

We have a wide variety of responsibilities. These include organising the competition and its Handbook as well as managing the centralised broadcast and commercial rights. The work we do in conjunction with the Clubs also goes far beyond the 90 minutes. We support and provide a framework for youth development we protect the organisations intellectual property support the wider game and community programmes undertake international development work and liaise with governing bodies and other leagues.

Our hybrid-working model also allows you some variety on your place of work offering you the chance to work from home on some days each week. Where possible you will attend the office or site visits in line with our company policy. All staff liaise closely with their line manager to manage their time appropriately and according to their work and team requirements.

The role


  • Work with the Premier Leagues Head of Sustainability to support the organisations sustainability programme including the delivery and communication of the Premier Leagues overall sustainability strategy.
  • Engage with all departments in the organisation to ensure sustainability is effectively embedded into working practises.
  • Develop and implement an Environmental Management System (EMS) for the Premier League aligned with best practice (ISO 14001) and lead the development of a climate transition plan for the business.
  • Support the development of internal engagement initiatives on environmental themes.
  • Improve the robustness and accuracy of carbon reporting capabilities.
  • Support event leads in embedding environmental considerations across events that the Premier League owns.
  • Lead the delivery of the Premier Leagues statutory and voluntary sustainability reporting obligations (UN Sports for Climate Action framework annual reporting against GRI Standards Streamlined Energy Carbon Reporting).
  • Work with commercial partners and other third-party organisations to scope and deliver sustainability activations and partnerships.
  • Manage both internal and external communications relating to environmental sustainability.
  • Work with the Head of Sustainability in providing comprehensive guidance and support to Club Community Organisations (CCOs) and Premier League club sustainability leads.

Requirements for the role


  • Proven experience of delivering a sustainability programme within a complex organisation.
  • Proven ability to support the implementation and delivery of sustainability commitments.
  • A strong understanding of sustainability principles environmental issues and their impact on businesses is essential. This includes knowledge of sustainability frameworks/standards (such as ISO 14001 SBTi GHG Protocol).
  • A collaborative team player able to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to input to / produce written reports guidelines presentation and other materials.
  • Strong project management skills and an ability to hit deadlines.
  • A general appreciation of the global and sporting contexts in which the Premier League works.
  • Attendance at the Premier League office in Paddington for at least three days per week.
  • Interest in and knowledge of football/elite sport is desired but not required.
