The Department of Secondary Education and School Leadership within the School ofEducation at Norfolk State University invites applications for a non-tenure trackClinical Counselor Education Instructor (F0068) position with an anticipated startdate of August 1 2026. We seek candidates that are independently licensed in theCommonwealth of Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or eligible forlicensure in Virginia by endorsement possess knowledge of CACREP accreditationstandards data/repots and have experience in one or more of the following areas:substance abuse/addictions school counseling clinical supervision and rehabilitation
counseling.

Overview of the Department
Norfolk State Universitys Department of Secondary Education and School Leadership(SESL) is housed in the School of Education (SOE). The department offers the multidimensional Master of Arts Urban Education degree with concentrations inAdministration and Supervision PK-12 (On-line) and subject area concentrations inBiology Chemistry English History and Mathematics. The department also offers theMaster of Arts in Counseling Education degree with concentrations in SchoolCounseling PK-12 Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Rehabilitation programs assist in-service and pre-service practitioners interested in acquiring
state endorsements and enhancing their professional development.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach graduate courses in the Master of Arts in CounselingEducation degree. The candidate will contribute to developing curricula in counseling tomeet CACREP standards and demonstrate expertise in communication interpersonal
and clinical skills and techniques. The candidate will advise and mentor graduatestudents hold office hours as designated by the University engage in programdevelopment curriculum reviews and assessment of student learning provide support
for program coordination and administration (e.g. recruitment admissionsprogramming) and serve on Departmental School and University committees. Thecandidate will manage matriculation of non-degree seeking students. Contribute toMental Health licensure verification internship and CACREP Reports data & KPI data. This position opened on February 28 2026 and there is a five consecutive workdays minimum posting requirement.


Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Counselor Education from a Council for the Accreditation of Counseling &Related Programs (CACREP) accredited program is necessary. Candidates must beindependently licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Licensed ProfessionalCounselor (LPC) or eligible for licensure in Virginia by endorsement and meet the CACREP standards for core faculty at the university. Candidates should have experiencein clinical mental health and/or school counseling.

Additional Considerations

Candidates with a record of published research in the field of mental health or counseloreducation and active involvement in professional associations and/or in partnerships inthe field are preferred. Preference will be given to candidates that possess an approvedclinical supervisor certification or are eligible to provide supervision for licensure in theCommonwealth of Virginia. Candidates with evidence of an established or developingresearch agenda that informs the counseling field are preferred. Candidates thatdemonstrate an ability to communicate with a diverse student population while fosteringprofessionalism through competency compassion and collaboration are also preferred.
