Job Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of Patient Services- Outpatient Clinic Services Program and with oversite from the Manitoba Bone Marrow Transplant (MBMT) Program Director the CAR-T & Donor Search Coordinator will work under two main priorities. The position will provide comprehensive coordination of care for patients receiving CAR-T therapy through CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) and its partner care organizations. This role is also responsible for the identification of the best possible donor(s) for patients requiring an allogenic transplant to enable transplant hematologists to select the best possible donor match.

The CAR-T & Donor Search Coordinator plays a pivotal role in supporting patients undergoing CAR-T therapy. This position involves comprehensive patient navigation case management clinical care coordination and education for both patients and caregivers from initial referral to the LBMT clinic through to repatriation to the referring clinic. This role is also responsible for providing education to the referring teams (CAR-T coordinator) as appropriate.

This position is responsible for managing the donor identification and cellular therapy product procurement process to support patient treatment plans. This role coordinates the collection and analysis of blood and/or buccal samples for human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing and other relevant testing interprets results and identifies optimal donor matches for physicians. The role involves working closely with partner organizations (CBS stem cell registry courier services). The role is responsible for being the primary reviewer of the (MBMT) Donor Coordinator standard operating procedures

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Nursing from an accredited educational institution required
  • Masters degree preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years nursing experience with a preference for those with experience in oncology nursing or in a Blood Marrow Transplant (BMT)/cellular therapy program
  • Demonstrated proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word PowerPoint Excel)
  • Experience in outpatient case management is an asset.

An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced understanding of the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system biological safety and transportation of biological goods.
  • Willingness to learn of Health Canada Cells Tissues and Organs Regulations and FACT standards.
  • Demonstrated evidence-based knowledge of cancer disease process treatments side effects and complications. Understanding of evidenced-based practice includes the importance of patient context and how this impacts patient outcomes.
  • Advanced level of communication facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Experience in adult education principles.
  • Demonstrated competence in team building conflict management and interpersonal effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to respect a culturally diverse population through knowledge of a broad spectrum of cultural values beliefs and health issues.
  • Understanding of health equity and equity-oriented cancer care.
  • Experience with using and navigating through electronic medical records programs and software such as Aria and eChart.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in multiple environments.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and respectful working relationships
  • Excellent critical thinking analytical and problem-solving skills with sounds judgement to solve complex problems particularly in stressful and time-sensitive situations.
  • Interprets scientific literature and applies complex concepts related to HLA typing to policies procedures directives guidelines and regulations.
  • Ability to perform venipuncture.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to think critically and strategically anticipating potential challenges and developing proactive solutions

Required Licenses Registrations Designations

  • Must be registered or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
  • CNA Certified Oncology Nurse CON(C) or completion within 5 years is preferred

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings at multiple locations throughout the organization and to lift and carry items
