Position Summary
Together the Sprott Department of Surgery and the Department of Anesthesia & Pain Management make up the largest comprehensive surgical program in Canada across 13 divisions tackling some of the worlds most complex surgeries and toughest medical problems. With our vision as World Leaders in Surgery quality and patient safety is  Sprott Centre of Surgical Quality and Safety leads a range of quality and safety initiatives across the three surgical campuses (Toronto General Hospital Toronto Western Hospital and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre) to drive safety experience and continuous Centre plays a key role in supporting UHN in achieving the highest levels of safety and quality care and in making meaningful and measurable progress towards zero preventable harm for patients and staff. 

The Sprott Centre for Quality and Safety is seeking a Research Analyst with a strong interest in applying a scholarly and publication-focused lens to quality improvement work. This role is intended to amplify the academic and external impact of quality and safety initiatives by identifying opportunities for dissemination publication and funding while supporting high-quality improvement work across the peri-operative journey. 

This Research Analyst position will work closely with the Quality and Safety Medical Leadership Quality Director and QI Specialist as part of a close knit interdisciplinary team. 

Duties 

  • Participating in initial project design in alignment to QI methodology with attention to when projects may be suitable for scholarly dissemination 
  • Setting of research goals selection and development of procedures 
  • Supporting the preparation of Quality Improvement Review Committee (QIRC) or research ethics (REB) applications and contributing to the framing of projects for publication or presentation 
  • Supporting grant and proposal writing for quality improvement patient safety and applied research initiatives 
  • Participating in data analysis including application of statistical analysis techniques 
  • Assisting or leading in the interpretation of results and preparation of material for presentation publication and/or minor grants 
  • Writing editing and critically appraising manuscripts including collaboration with clinical leaders and QI specialists 
  • Proactively identifying opportunities within existing QI work for abstracts manuscripts and conference submissions 
  • Conducting regular reviews of relevant literature in the field of study including quality improvement and patient safety journals

Qualifications :

  • Bachelors Degree with three (3) years related experience is required
  • Masters Degree in a related discipline with two (2) years of related experience is an asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the ethical conduct of research with human subjects 
  • Familiarity with Quality Improvement projects research and methodologies 
  • Experience within the healthcare industry is an asset 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Strong scientific writing skills with demonstrated experience preparing manuscripts abstracts or reports for publication or presentation 
  • Demonstrated record of interdisciplinary collaboration 
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook Excel Word PowerPoint) and Statistical software 
  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control Charts (SPC) encouraged (ie. Familiar with QIMacros or similar)  
  • Experience with UHN RFS research administration and finances grant services an asset but not required 
  • Experience with REDCap is an asset
