Job Description
The Section of Cardiac Critical Care Medicine within the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham has an immediate opening for recruitment of a cardiac intensive care faculty member to join our current team of 7 faculty members in the CVICU . Entry or mid-level candidates are encouraged to apply. The new faculty member would provide care for children in our 20 bed state-of-the-art pediatric CVICU located within The Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children at Childrens of Alabama. They will work in close collaboration with our multidisciplinary team of cardiovascular surgeons anesthesiologists perfusionists cardiologists and nurses. The Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center of Alabama performs over 400 surgical cases/year and has active programs in heart failure transplant and mechanical circulatory support. There are over 600 children/year with acquired and congenital medical and surgical heart disease admitted to our CVICU . This includes all preoperative neonates with surgical cardiac disease and high risk patients from our busy interventional and electrophysiology programs. The CVICU attendings provide in-house 24/7 coverage of the CVICU supervising an excellent team acute care PNPs with active PICU and cardiology fellowships. Additionally we support a one year clinical CVICU fellowship. The current faculty are active in CVICU quality and safety initiatives simulation and a robust CVICU clinical and translational research team currently conducting studies on acute kidney injury peritoneal dialysis inflammation after bypass cardiac arrest ECMO mechanical ventilation oxygen delivery and multicenter registry studies. We have an active biorepository CVICU clinical database 2 research coordinators statistician and data collector to facilitate research activity. Individuals board eligible in critical care/cardiology/ NICU /anesthesia with additional 1 years of training in pediatric cardiac critical care or double boarded in cardiology and critical care will be considered. A history of excellent communication and evidence of exceptional clinical and teaching skills are a must. Preference will be given to individuals with a strong interest/experience in scholarly activities and clinical/translational research. Start-up resources for faculty development research and teaching are available where appropriate. Rank salary and tenure status are commensurate with training and experience.
