We are looking for a Social Worker Placement Student to join our team!

The Social Work Placement Student will work within a multi-disciplinary team providing recovery-oriented support to individuals experiencing mental health and/or addiction concerns. The placement student will provide support for assessment planning implementation and evaluation of clinical care within the Brampton Multidisciplinary Team

The placement is unpaid and will be up to 4 months long and for students looking to complete preferably 300 or more placement hours beginning in Spring 2026.

Status: Unpaid Post-secondary Placement Student with hours falling between 8 am - 5 pm Mon - Fri; Note this posting is for an active vacancy

Location:This position is based out of our314-7700 Hurontario St. office. Although we operate within a hybrid workplace model staff are required to have on-site and/or community presence as per program and client needs.

What You Will Do:

• Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
• Conduct client intakes under the direct supervision and guidance of IIS clinicians.
• Collect review and organize intake forms referral documents and consent materials.
• Assist in scheduling intake appointments and communicating next steps to clients.
• Enter and update client information in secure databases ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
• Prepare intake summaries gather required documentation and support clinicians in case preparation.
  
• Maintain and update the DBT waitlist according to program procedures.
• Communicate with waitlisted clients to confirm ongoing interest provide timelines and share program information.
• Track wait times and client movement through the queue and generate updates for the program team.
• Identify and flag priority cases for clinical review based on established criteria.
• Support group session logistics including distributing materials setting up equipment and managing signins.
• Provide nonclinical support during DBT groups (e.g. observing dynamics assisting with activities).
• Record attendance document participation and update program records following each session.

What You Need to Join Our Team:

• Currently enrolled in a Master of Social Work degree or health-related post-secondary program.
• Pursuing a health professional designation is an asset.
• At least 2 years of combined academic knowledge and experience.
• Sound knowledge of psycho-social rehabilitation crisis intervention understanding of addiction/concurrent issues and its impact on this population recovery principles groups trauma-informed care severe and persistent mental illness especially schizophrenia; and primary mood disorders with psychosis
• Solid experience in a mental health/addiction setting and in completing psychosocial assessments and facilitating groups as appropriate for the first episode psychosis clients
• Knowledge of community supports and resources especially with regards to education and employment
  
• Demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations and possess effective decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  
• Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach listen build trust and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence.

• Openness to operate from an anti-racist anti-oppressive 2SLGBTQ affirming and intersectional framework.
• Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity such as gender identity/expression race/cultural background religion sexual orientation disability immigration and precarious status family status etc.

• Fluency in a second language including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset.

• Valid Canadian drivers license and access to an insured automobile in good repair
• A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check) report.
