What youll be doing

The Manger Sanctions Operations contributes to the management of the sanctions program and acts a subject matter expert by providing direction and guidance on sanctions regulatory requirements as it pertains to sanctions screening/inquiries. They will exercise independent judgement within defined policies and procedures to ensure that CIBC is consistently compliant with enterprise wide sanctions legislation.

The Manager Sanctions Operations is responsible for a team whose key role will be to assess and adjudicate (often under pressure due to high volumes and benchmark timelines): screening alerts and/or external FI inquiries pertaining to clients and/or transactions. This role reports directly to the Director Sanctions Operations and works collaboratively with the other managers within the team.

How youll succeed:

  • Sanctions Knowledge: Maintain a solid understanding of relevant provisions in the sanction regulations (Canada U.S. U.K. EU and other jurisdictions) to appropriately assess sanctions risk from a global perspective in a timely manner. Adjudicate (and/or provide guidance to reporting team members) on the screening alerts/external FI Inquiries referred to the Sanctions Operations team in a timely and accurate manner

  • Program Design: Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness related to Sanctions processes with focus on the external FI Inquiries (which is currently email based and highly manual).

  • Procedures:Develop implement and maintain various sanctions compliance procedures and internal controls adapting them to evolving global regulations.

  • Guidance and Collaboration:Act as a subject matter expert providing guidance to other internal teams (e.g. FIU LOBS) on sanctions-related issues and collaborating on cross-functional initiatives.

  • Auditing and Testing:Support the various audit and testing programs the Sanctions Operations undergo on a regular periodic basis and ensure any findings are remediated.

  • Team Leadership and Training:Manage and mentor a team of senior sanctions analysts. Sets clear objectives provide regular feedback and foster a culture of compliance and continuous improvement

  • Other: Supports change initiatives including technology upgrades policy updates and training programs to support organizational goals

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate experience and/or knowledge in Sanctions. Its an asset if you have theProfessional certifications such as a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) or Certified Global Sanctions Specialist (CGSS) often preferred.
