The school is seeking a proactive efficient and highly organised Science Technician to join its expanding Science department. This is a vital operational role supporting teachers ensuring safe laboratory practice and enabling high-quality practical science across KS3KS5.
You will work under the leadership of the Senior Science Technician and Head of Science preparing materials ordering stock maintaining equipment supporting practical demonstrations and ensuring that laboratories remain clean safe and compliant with regulation standards (including COSHH and CLEAPSS).
This position is ideal for someone with laboratory experience a strong interest in science and excellent organisational skills. Experience in school laboratories is beneficial but applicants from scientific technical or industrial backgrounds are equally encouraged.
Preparing and setting up equipment chemicals and materials for practical lessons across Biology Chemistry and Physics
Ensuring laboratories prep rooms and equipment meet health and safety guidelines including COSHH compliance
Maintaining equipment glassware ICT resources and apparatus to a high working standard
Supporting teachers during practical sessions demonstrations and experiments
Safely disposing of chemicals and hazardous waste following regulations
Managing laboratory stock ordering supplies and maintaining accurate inventory records
Preparing bespoke apparatus and resources for specialist demonstrations
Ensuring secure storage labelling and organisation of chemicals
Assisting with risk assessments and contributing to safe working practices
Supporting the setup of exam practicals required practicals and controlled assessments
Maintaining a clean orderly and professional working environment across all laboratories
Scientific background through study or employment
Strong organisational and time-management skills
Understanding of laboratory equipment and safety procedures
Ability to work independently and within a team
Excellent attention to detail and strong initiative
Commitment to student safety and enrichment in practical science
Experience in a school laboratory or industrial/scientific environment (desirable)
