A welcoming and forward-thinking secondary school in Watford is seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join their successful department. This is an exciting opportunity to teach in a school that values high standards creativity and student-centred learning.


About the Role

The English Teacher will deliver engaging and challenging lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (KS5 desirable) fostering strong literacy skills and a genuine appreciation for English Language and Literature.

Working closely with the Head of Department and wider teaching team you will contribute to curriculum development enrichment opportunities and whole-school literacy initiatives ensuring students achieve their full academic potential.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons that engage and challenge students of all abilities

  • Teach English Language and Literature across KS3KS4 (KS5 desirable)

  • Prepare students effectively for GCSE examinations and assessment objectives

  • Differentiate learning to support SEND EAL and high-attaining pupils

  • Use formative and summative assessment to monitor progress and inform teaching

  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and achievement in line with school policy

  • Contribute to curriculum planning departmental meetings and moderation processes

  • Support extracurricular activities such as reading clubs theatre visits or creative writing initiatives

  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding student progress

  • Uphold safeguarding equality and school policies at all times


The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent

  • Experience teaching English within a secondary school setting

  • Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature

  • Excellent classroom management and behaviour strategies

  • Ability to motivate challenge and inspire learners

  • Skilled in using assessment data to raise attainment

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

  • Legal right to work in the UK
