Vall dHebron Research Institute (VHIR) is a public-sector research institution based in Barcelona (Spain). It promotes and conducts cutting-edge biomedical research in close collaboration with the University Hospital Vall dHebron. VHIR is currently offering a Research Technician position within the Liver Disease Unit for a nine-month period.
Education and qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Biotechnology with a minimum grade of 7.20
Master in Translational Biomedical Research offered by VHIR
Fluency in Catalan Spanish and English (business level)
Minimum h-index of 9
Minimum of 12 published papers in international journals at least two as a first author
Minimum participation in at least 8 poster or oral presentations at scientific seminars or meetings.
Strong teaching skills
Excellent ability to deliver oral presentations at local national and international meetings
At least 4 years of experience in molecular biology and next-generation sequencing-based analysis of RNA viruses
Knowledge of virology gradient-based isolation techniques data collection and analysis
Ability to teach and mentor students
Self-motivated enthusiastic and committed to research activities.
Extensive expertise in next-generation sequencing and metagenomics
Participation in competitive research projects
Experience in DNA and RNA extraction
Experience in next-generation sequencing NGS
Main responsibilities and duties:
Coordinate the optimisation of metagenomics methodologies
Provide support for bioinformatic analysis following metagenomics runs and data acquisition
Collaborate in writing papers
Prepare and mentor new students
Organise and ensure proper maintenance of the viral hepatitis laboratory
Labour conditions:
Full-time position: 375h/week.
Starting date: April 1st 2026.
Gross annual salary: 28.000 - 29.000 euros (Remuneration will depend on experience and skills. Salary ranges are consistent with our Collective Agreement pay scale)
