DescriptionRegistered Nurse - Behavioral Health Position Summary
Provides direct patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice for behavioral health patients. Collaborates with the interprofessional team to support a safe therapeutic environment and high-quality outcomes. Reports to the Director or Manager of Department.
Essential Functions
- Performs plan-of-care interventions including medication administration specimen collection clinical treatments and other medical care activities.
- Documents patient care provided in a timely and accurate manner.
- Monitors records and communicates patient condition to the care team physicians patients and families.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living (hygiene elimination nutrition ambulation).
- Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate care (transfers discharges referrals and psychosocial/spiritual support needs).
- Assesses learning needs and delivers age-/culture-appropriate patient and family education.
- Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
- Participates in unit and organizational performance improvement and required continuing education.
- Provides quality patient care and works other shifts/units as needed; may be assigned on-call.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Patient Populations Served: Neonate Infant Early Childhood Late Childhood Adolescent Young Adult Middle Adult Older Adult. Protected Health Information Accessed: Demographic Clinical Insurance Financial Complete Medical Record. Exposure: Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens may be present. Physical Requirements (typical): Frequent standing walking lifting/moving patients keyboard entry and repetitive hand/arm movements; occasional sitting squatting and kneeling; rare running or climbing. Regular exposure to biological and chemical hazards including blood/body fluids hazardous medications and latex.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Education: Associates Degree in Nursing required; Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred. Licensure/Certifications: Current RN license in state of practice; BCLS required; Handle with Care preferred. Skills: Critical thinking and decisive judgment; able to work with minimal supervision in stressful environments. Ability to quickly learn and navigate multiple clinical software systems. Effective English communication (read write speak and understand). Ability to successfully complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
