Job Summary:

West Texas A&M University a member of The Texas A&M University System invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Creative Writing or English with a specialization in Creative Writing. This is a 9-month tenure track position that reports to the Head of the Department of English Philosophy and Modern Languages. WTAMU is seeking an innovative and dynamic educator and creative writer to enhance a recognized teaching writing and creative writing minor.

Work Performed:

  • Teach a minimum of 9 hours per long semester in poetry fiction nonfiction and/or screenwriting including core curriculum writing using face-to-face and/or online formats.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Active participation in departmental university and community committees/activities.
  • Participate in departmental recruiting efforts to grow the English program.
  • Maintain an active research and publication practice.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Creative Writing or English with a specialization in Creative Writing.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching research and service.
  • Commitment to an interdisciplinary team approach to education and research.
  • Leadership skills effective interpersonal communication self-motivation and the ability to thrive in a student-centered environment are essential qualities expected.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred subfields considered include 18th century transatlantic literature 18th century British literature composition and rhetoric and foreign language.
