Job Summary

Purpose of Position:

The Cougar Crew is a group of student leaders who are dedicated to serving students and the broader Columbus State community. This position is fundamentally about helping others and successful candidates will have a strong desire to help first-time college students succeed at Columbus State. As student leaders members of the Cougar Crew are expected to be positive about their experience at Columbus State and represent the college professionally. The Cougar Crew are critically important to the facilitation of New Student Programs Advising and Career Services initiatives and events.

This position is only open to students with Federal Work Study eligibility.

Students must be available to work during Summer 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties are numbered for convenience and do not indicate order in terms of importance frequency that the duty is performed or the amount of time spent on the duty.

  • Create a welcoming atmosphere in which new students feel comfortable interacting with one another faculty and staff

  • Support students by answering their questions helping them to understand the event schedule and making appropriate referrals

  • Introduce new students to Columbus State systems (Workday Blackboard email etc.) resources and expectations

  • Help students register for classes and make their first semester schedule

  • Support events in person and virtually

  • Assists with orientation and event logistics by preparing materials (such as folders and giveaways) supporting student outreach and helping guide students and guests throughout programs.

  • Manage the New Student Programs Instagram account

  • Serve as a member of the Welcome Team for Autumn and Spring semesters

  • Contribute to additional student success programming and initiatives

  • Assist with office operations: support phone calls drop-in assistance and wayfinding of student traffic

  • Monitors the employee email account and represents the college by assisting students through professional phone and email communications.

  • Other duties as assigned to support New Student Onboarding and student success initiatives

  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information.

  • Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty staff students and members of the community.

  • Work a consistent reliable schedule and exhibits regular and punctual attendance.

Minimum/General Qualifications:

This position requires applicants to have Federal Work Study as part of their current Financial Aid package with Columbus State. You must also be enrolled in SIX or more credit hours in a degree or certificate program. Visit for a full explanation of eligibility requirements or visit Nestor Hall 113 to request Federal Work Study if you were not awarded it already. Any applicants without Federal Work Study eligibility will not be considered for this position.

Applicants must have received a high school diploma or a certificate of attendance from an accredited secondary school or a certificate of high school equivalence and be exempt from Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4109.

Must have reliable transportation or other means to get to work regularly.

Students enrolled as Transient College Credit Plus Undecided or otherwise non-degree-seeking are not considered eligible for Student Employment.

Schedule:

Support scheduled office support and new student onboarding events in between the hours of Monday Tuesday Thursday Friday 7am-6pm; Wednesday 7am-8pm; and Saturdays 7am-5pm.

Students must be available to work during Summer 2026.

Maximum 20 hours per week.

Work will be performed: Mainly On-Site with potential for Hybrid.

CSTATE GROW (Guided Reflections on Work)

The program consists of brief structured conversations between supervisor and student to reflect on and integrate what they are learning. All student employees and their functional supervisors participate in this program during Autumn and Spring semesters.

Career and Leadership Development Program (CLDP)

The program consists of paid competency-based career and leadership development activities designed by Career Services. All Tier/Level III positions are automatically enrolled in this program.
