Located in the heart of the Queen City Regina Surgical Centre is a block away from the Regina General Hospital.The Centre boasts five state-of-the-art operating theatres and is accredited to perform orthopedic short-stay surgeries ear nose and throat (ENT) procedures plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery cataract surgery and pediatric dental surgeries. TheCentre is fully accredited by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.
Position Summary
The RN/LPN provides patient-centered care to surgical patients ensuring safety comfort and optimal outcomes. The nurse collaborates closely with surgeons anesthesiologists and the interdisciplinary healthcare team in a fast-paced surgical environment. RNs and LPNs practice according to their respective regulatory standards scope of practice and facility policies.
RN/LPN Pre- and Post-Operative
Location: Regina Saskatchewan
Number of Positions: 1
Employment Type: Part-Time Permanent (0.5 FTE)
Pre-Operative Care
- Admit and prepare patients for surgical procedures
- Conduct comprehensive (RN) or focused (LPN) preoperative assessments including patient history vital signs and documentation review
- Administer medications and IV therapy within scope of practice (RN or LPN as permitted)
- Provide patient and family education regarding the procedure anesthesia and post-operative care
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure patients are fully prepared for surgery
Post-Operative Care
- Monitor and assess patients immediately following surgery including vital signs airway pain management and response to anesthesia
- Administer medications IV fluids and pain management interventions within scope of practice
- Document assessments interventions and patient progress accurately and promptly
- Provide post-operative education on wound care mobility pain management and follow-up instructions
- Ensure safe transfer or discharge of patients according to established protocols
General Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe clean and organized work environment
- Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development
- Practice strictly within RN or LPN scope of practice and according to regulatory standards
Education and Licenses:
- Graduate of an approved Nursing program.
- Current and active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS).
- Current CPR (BCLS-HCP) certification
- Previous experience in ophthalmology nursing preferred
- Additional certifications (e.g. ACLS or perioperative nursing courses critical care) considered an asset.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong critical thinking clinical judgment and decision-making within RN or LPN scope
- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Professional demeanor and adaptability in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Excellent communication interpersonal and patient-education skills
- Competence in pre- and post-operative assessment medication/IV administration and patient teaching
- Effective time management organization and prioritization of tasks
