Job Summary

The Assistant Principal of Alternative Programming plays a pivotal role in supporting the disciplinary instructional and administrative functions primarily within Lewis & Clark Academy (LCA) but also supports other associated alternative programs throughout the district including Fort Connect. Reporting directly to the Principal the Assistant Principal will collaborate closely with staff parents and students to ensure a positive and productive learning environment conducive to academic and personal growth. This position requires strong leadership effective communication skills and a commitment to fostering a culture of excellence real world learning experiences and inclusivity.

Must hold a valid Missouri K-12 Administrative / Principal Certificate experience in special education and behavior preferred.

This job reports to Principal of Alternative Programming and serves both Lewis & Clark Academy and Fort Connect.

Disciplinary Support and Behavior Management:

  • Provide disciplinary support including conducting student investigations implementing behavior plans and facilitating interventions to address student behavior concerns.
  • Serve as the day-to-day lead on behavior planning and implementation collaborating with staff to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.

Parent Communication and Support:

  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student behavior academic progress and other concerns fostering positive relationships and partnerships.
  • Facilitate triangulation meetings (student support teams) involving parents teachers and support staff to develop comprehensive plans for student success.

Teacher Evaluation and Support:

  • Conduct teacher evaluations providing constructive feedback and support for professional growth.
  • Support professional development initiatives lead debriefs and provide coaching to staff on the implementation of instructional best practices and building goals.

Instructional Support and Planning:

  • Provide instructional support for Fort Connect Real World Learning initiatives and assist LCA staff with individual lesson planning ensuring alignment with academic standards and student needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement differentiated instruction strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Take the lead on any Alternative/At-Risk functions as assigned by the Head Principal coordinating interventions and supports for at-risk students.
  • Provide supervision support for after-school events and activities for students in grades 7-12 ensuring a safe and orderly environment.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Administration Educational Leadership or related field
  • Valid state administrative certification or eligibility for certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in educational leadership or related field preferably in an alternative education or at-risk youth setting.
  • Strong understanding of behavior management strategies disciplinary procedures and restorative practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and support instructional improvement initiatives including teacher evaluation and professional development.
  • Knowledge of instructional best practices curriculum development and assessment strategies.
  • Commitment to equity diversity and inclusion in education.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with staff parents and community stakeholders to support student success.
  • Flexible and adaptable with the ability to manage multiple priorities and responsibilities effectively.
