Job Summary

Our Microsoft Cloud Data & AI team designs builds and operates secure scalable cloud platforms that enable rapid delivery of business value. We combine engineering excellence with modern platform practices to provide reliable cost-effective foundations for data AI and application workloads. We often work in collaboration with our other specialist teams in Dynamics Finance and Operations Security and Cyber. The team is growing quickly and this role is critical to building the cloud engineering capability that underpins everything we deliver.

Your Opportunity

As a Cloud Engineering & Operations Manager you are a hands-on engineering leader. You will design and deliver cloud platform components lead a team of platform engineers through day-to-day delivery and actively develop junior engineers to grow and succeed. You will work alongside solution architects data engineers and delivery leads to ensure platforms are built to a high standard and ready to support the workloads that run on them.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Engineer Azure landing zones networking identity integrations and platform services to enterprise standards.
  • Implement IaC using Terraform or Bicep and CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps.
  • Build secure-by-default patterns including policy as code secrets management private networking and zero-trust controls.
  • Lead a team of platform engineers with clear ownership and accountability ensuring delivery of secure scalable well-architected cloud environments.
  • Enable scalable runtime environments using AKS App Service and Functions with automated scaling and blue-green or canary deployment strategies.
  • Establish monitoring logging and alerting using Azure Monitor Log Analytics and Application Insights.
  • Optimise cost and performance through tagging budgets rightsizing and FinOps practices.
  • Actively explore ways to accelerate delivery - including leveraging AI-assisted development tools and building reusable platform assets.
  • Perform code reviews provide technical coaching and support junior engineers through pairing and clear feedback.
  • Contribute to documentation runbooks and knowledge sharing across squads.

Your Experience

  • Strong expertise across Azure core platform services: networking VNets Private Link identity Key Vault Storage App Service AKS Functions API Management.
  • Strong IaC and CI/CD skills: Terraform or Bicep reusable modules pipelines approvals and environment promotion strategies.
  • Experience with DevSecOps and compliance automation: Defender for Cloud Azure Policy role-based access control package and container security.
  • Knowledge of platform reliability practices: SLIs and SLOs autoscaling resiliency patterns chaos testing and cost controls.
  • Experience mentoring engineers conducting code reviews and supporting Agile delivery teams.

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent industry experience.
  • Microsoft certifications in Azure Administrator DevOps Engineer or Solutions Architect are advantageous.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
