We are seeking a highly skilled Advanced Closures Design Engineer to lead the development of world-class vehicle closure this role you will be responsible for the end-to-end design integration and validation of stamped sheet metal components including doors hoods and tailgates. You will act as a technical pivot point between Creative Studio Manufacturing and CAE to ensure our vehicles meet the highest standards of structural integrity surface quality and functional durability.
Key Responsibilities
System Design: Lead the design and development of complex closure assemblies including inner/outer panels reinforcements and integrated hardware (hinges latches and strikers).
Engineering Compliance: Ensure all designs meet strict packaging structural crashworthiness and functional requirements.
Surface & Aesthetic Integration: Provide technical feedback on Class A surface feasibility resolving concerns related to gap & flush surface distortion and final aesthetic quality.
Validation & Quality: Develop and manage the DVP&R (Design Verification Plan & Report). Support validation activities such as door-slam durability corrosion testing and hinge fatigue.
Risk Management: Lead DFMEA updates conduct issue resolution and manage technical documentation throughout the program lifecycle.
Manufacturing Feasibility: Ensure stamping feasibilitymonitoring draw direction springback thinning and splits. Provide direct technical input to suppliers during tooling reviews.
Dimensional Control: Manage CAD clash/clearance tolerance stack-ups and GD&T to ensure vehicle-level dimensional targets are achieved.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate daily with BIW Sealing CAE Studio and Manufacturing teams to resolve design conflicts and optimize for mass production.
Qualifications :
Education: Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering Automotive Engineering or a related technical field.
Experience: 58 years of direct experience in Automotive Closures design.
Technical Expertise: * Deep understanding of stamped sheet metal design and mechanism integration.
Strong knowledge of automotive validation standards and DVP&R processes.
Proficiency in GD&T and dimensional management.
Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in CATIA V5/V6 or Siemens NX.
Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and the communication skills necessary to bridge the gap between high-level design and shop-floor manufacturing.
