Position Summary:
This position is responsible for the planning and provisionof instruction and services to students K-12 enrolled in the AIU-operated Special Education Schools. The instructor collaborates closely with other professional school-based personnel in designing lessons and activities that address specific learners IEP goals while also exposing students to the PA Academic Standards. The instructor needs to supervise and direct non-professional staff in support of instructional and behavioral goals for students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops lesson plans and units that address the PA Academic Standards to ensure exposure to the general education curriculum for students with disabilities.
- Instructs students in whole groups small groups and individual sessions using appropriate adaptations and modifications to address learners IEP goals and learning objectives.
- Monitors student progress using a variety of assessment techniques (e.g. diagnostic formative benchmark summative tools) to monitor student achievement and inform instructional planning.
- Implements classroom level and individual behavior management programs using evidence-based practices to reduce non-academic barriers to student achievement.
- Maintains records (e.g. attendance behavior academic performance) using formal and informal information systems in order to collect accurate student information.
- Communicates with parents/guardians and district personnel through a variety of formal and informal means (e.g. report cards conferences newsletters progress reports home school logs) to facilitate partnerships focusing on student achievement.
- Develops Individualized Education Programs and Reevaluation Reports based on student performance data which comply with federal and state regulations and local guidelines and participates in IEP team meetings.
- Manages and works collaboratively with classroom personnel (e.g. paraprofessionals Personal Care Assistants) using clear and direct communication techniques supporting students academic social emotional and behavioral goals.
- Collaborates with related service providers and other staff using a consultative model ensuring that relevant information affecting students special education program is shared and acted upon.
- Promotes students products through physical and/or digital representation (e.g. bulletin boards displays student products) showcasing learners production and enhancing school climate.
- Complete other duties (e.g. bus duty lunch duty) as assigned by the building principal or special education supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Valid PA certification in Special Education PK-12 required.
- Ability to utilize email Microsoft Office programs and student information systems (i.e. IEP Writer Skyward) to manage communication information and records
- Ability to follow all administration policies and guidelines governing students by maintaining a professional demeanor following AIU policies building procedures and the Pennsylvania professional code of conduct.
Additional Requirements:
- Current Act 114 Act 34 Act 151 and NSOR Clearances required prior to an offer (must be dated within 1 year of hire date).
- School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
