Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the building leader and the ELA Curriculum Coordinator the Literacy Coach will support the teaching and learning process of SDUC by coaching and developing teachers to facilitate high quality ELA instruction in support of the SDUC English programmatic goals and promote cross-curricular literacy practices to establish a culture of literacy within the building.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Develops teachers knowledge of ELA content along with high yield instruction and assessment practices
- Models examples of high quality ELA instruction for building staff in alignment with district foci
- Facilitates and coordinates professional development for building staff in the areas of literacy-based instruction
- Conduct classroom observations and provide teacher feedback
- Attend off-campus meetings workshops and trainings that have building-wide impact
- Serve as lead learner and instructional expert for the team
- Participate in building and district hiring
- Support develop and/or maintain relationships with external partners
- Leads and supports curriculum development/adoption efforts
- Serves as the facilitator for building ELA committees meetings etc.
- Ensures vertical and horizontal collaboration among teachers to promote building-wide learning and growth
- Ensures vertical alignment of ELA curriculum
- Assists teachers with the integration of technology during ELA instruction
- Leads the development and assessment of existing and new ELA programs
- Makes building level presentations relative to curriculum and material adoptions course offerings etc.
- Performs other instructional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the ELA Curriculum & Instruction Leader and building leadership
- Acts as the building representative for ELA
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality

- Ability to use effective interpersonal skills to successfully build relationships and problem solve with colleagues.
- Strong knowledge of the content MLS and PBL
- Strong data analysis and presentation skills
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
The qualifications noted below are required to enable the employee to perform the essential duties/responsibilities of this position.
- Misssouri HS and MS English Certification and a Masters Degree in the English content Curriculum and Instruction or Administration required
- Five years of successful teaching experience
- Three years of leadership experience
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Superior human relations skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sufficient vision to read printed material see distant objects with clarity and identify and distinguish objects
- Sufficient hearing to hear conversations in person and on the telephone and hear sounds clearly up to 30 feet
- Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone and in addressing groups
- Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects
- This position requires standing walking sitting bending and reaching for extended periods of time
- Sufficient manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and/or manipulate objects operate mechanical equipment and move about the work area
- This position will subject the employee to work environments that have exposure to weather or interiors with extremes of heat and/or cold wet and/or humid conditions high noise levels and various work related hazards
