Position Overview

Shaw Industries is hiring a Department Manager Assistant to servethe Tufting Department byassistingwith the day-to-day management and implementation of the departments requirements within the carpet manufacturing process.

Responsibilities:

  • Act asliaisonbetween Department Managers and Department employees by providing an effective line of communicationwith regard tocompany policies.

  • Monitor all departmental production production qualityprocessesand procedures and ensure that all employees continually follow departmental SMS procedures and instructions.

  • Give direction and support to department employeeswith regard toachieving departmental goals andobjectivesas well as assist in coordinating andmaintainingthe Departments work forcein order toensure that the goals andobjectivesarefeasible.

  • Identify coordinate and/or oversee special departmental projects that contribute to continued improvement in the areas of efficiencyproductivityand quality.

  • Assistemployees in resolving any job-related problems or concerns to includeP.I. (Process Improvement) process TMS (Tufting Monitoring System) SPC quality safetyequipmentand training.

  • Attend and/or conduct periodic departmental meetings.

  • When the need arises perform or delegate the performance of any of the various jobs or procedures within the department while referring to theappropriate SMSInstructional and Procedural documentation.

  • ActivelyparticipateinP.R.I.D.E. process either through involvement in a P.R.I.D.E. subcommittee or through creating employee P.R.I.D.E. awareness or both.

  • Assist Department Manager in monitoring and addressing cost issues concerning labor and spending for repair and maintenance parts

  • Review all rolls held for tufting defects

  • Review non-conforming product as needed todeterminethe disposition

  • Review daily quality reports and research tufting charges

  • Help ensure all maintenance related issues are addressed and work closely with Plant maintenance and electricians as needed.

  • Fill in for department manager in his/her absence (refer to Department Managers job description)

  • Serve on task forces and committees as necessary

Requirements:

  • 4-year degree

  • Process Engineer experience OR a minimum of 2 years of manufacturing experience

Preferred:

  • PreviousTufting experience

  • Previous manufacturing leadership experience

  • Experience in carpet manufacturing and the ability toidentifycarpet defects
