Brief Technology Director Overview:
The Technology Director will provide direction and day-to-day management of all Department technology operations including information technology technology project management and LIMS administration. This position will also coordinate internal technology efforts ensure customer support to internal users and serve as a liaison with external partners to ensure Department technology operations run smoothly and to maximize the Departments return on taxpayer investments.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day management of internal Department technology operations projects and staff
Implement administer monitor and guide Department projects and contracts to completion / renewal allowing Department scientific staff to focus on their primary role of examining decedents and testing evidence
Advocate and negotiate on behalf of the Department with outside vendors and other county departments to ensure Department needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner
Serve as the Departments primary liaison with other county agencies including the countys Universal Services Department and Purchasing
Assist in the drafting of yearly budget and RFP requirements agreements and service contracts to ensure sufficient Department funding and protection

Education:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or closely related field
Experience:
Six years experience in information technology and/or project management including one year supervising staff
Certifications/ License Requirements:
Maintain a valid Texas Drivers License and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Objective with a high degree of independent judgment problem solving ability and considerable construction information technology and budget management knowledge
Ability to balance strategic thinking with tactical action to drive results
Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to multi-task and adjust priorities as needed
Additional Requirements:
Must pass criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening (prior to and randomly during employment)

Potential Exposures:
The Institute of Forensic Sciences provides medical examiner and crime lab services for Harris County.
The work performed is sensitive and serious and routinely deals with criminal evidence and deaths of adults and children that resulted from violence natural disease or other causes. While this position wont have any direct contact with evidence or decedents there will be exposure which may be emotionally taxing
Work Schedule:
Full-time; 40 hours/week Monday Friday in office
Hours may vary based on the needs of the Department
Must be available to work during severe weather events or other emergencies
Physical Demands:
Medium work.
Requires physical strength to push pull and lift up to 40 pounds when necessary
Must be physically able to sit or stand for extended periods
