Job Summary

Great Prairie Area Education Agency has an opening forSpecial Education Instructional Services Coordinator beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.

Reports to: Administrator of Special Education Instructional Services

Classification:Supervisory - 203 Day

Benefits:IPERS generous paid leave package and monthly cafeteria allotment of $1050.00.

Salary:2025-2026 Salary Schedule(based on education and experience).

Position Overview:

This role provides leadership for special education instructional services supporting compliance professional learning and effective service delivery across the agency. The position guides staff analyzes data to improve practices collaborates with districts and stakeholders and ensures alignment with state and federal requirements while supervising instructional services personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Holds a valid license/certification from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
  • Holds a masters degree in education or a related field.
  • Iowa Evaluator Approval (190)
  • Demonstrates experience in organizing planning and facilitating professional development.
  • Has strong knowledge of special education policies procedures and best practices.
  • Exhibits excellent interpersonal teamwork and communication skills (both written and verbal).

Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and respond to inquiries from agency and district staff regarding special education instructional services.
  • Support general supervision efforts and the implementation of special education policies and procedures in the agency.
  • Review agency data on IEP compliance and support the development and
  • implementation of corrective action plans to address identified concerns.
  • Assign weightings to IEPs.
  • Plan develop coordinate and facilitate professional development sessions workshops and training for AEA staff educators support personnel and administrators on topics related to Special Education Instructional Services.
  • Foster collaborative relationships within the AEA school districts community partnerships and state-level stakeholders to support special education instructional services and special education initiatives.
  • Represent the agency at regional and state meetings providing leadership for the implementation of statewide initiatives.
  • Manage multiple projects efficiently demonstrating strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Utilize technology effectively to enhance teaching learning and daily operations.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and uphold the core values vision and mission of Great Prairie AEA in all professional interactions and responsibilities.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student teacher and staff information.
  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations as well as AEA policies and procedures.
  • Stay abreast of new ideas in the fields of education special education and leadership.
  • Provide leadership and direction for service area personnel.
  • Supervise AEA special education instructional services personnel including school psychologists school social workers special education consultants and other special education instructional services staff members.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel between schools/sites served and outside of the service area.
  • Normal routine levels of bending carrying climbing reaching sitting standing and walking. At times the job may also involve above average levels of activity which cant always be anticipated.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily performed in an office and school setting. Occasionally exposed to dust noise odors and other irritants. Stress associated with work pace and pressure. Work involves irregular hours and days. Exposed to hazards and inclement weather when traveling.
