Job Summary

Great Prairie Area Education Agency has an opening for Special Education Related Services Coordinator beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.

Reports To: Administrator of Special Education Related Services

Classification: Supervisory - 203 Day

Benefits:IPERS generous paid leave package and monthly cafeteria allotment of $1050.00.

Salary:2025-2026 Salary Schedule(based on education and experience).

Job Summary:

This role provides leadership for special education related services supporting compliance professional learning and effective service delivery across the agency. The position guides staff analyzes data to improve practices collaborates with districts and stakeholders and ensures alignment with state and federal requirements while supervising related services personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Masters degree in education or a related field.
  • Certification: Valid Iowa Board of Educational Examiners license with the Iowa Evaluator Approval (190).

Essential Functions:

  • Provide guidance and respond to inquiries from agency and district staff regarding Related Services.
  • Support general supervision efforts and the implementation of special education policies and procedures in the agency.
  • Review agency data on IEP and IFSP compliance and support the development and
  • implementation of corrective action plans to address identified concerns.
  • Plan develop coordinate and facilitate professional development sessions workshops and training for AEA staff educators support personnel and administrators on topics related to Related Services.
  • Foster collaborative relationships within the AEA school districts community partnerships and state-level stakeholders to support related services and special education initiatives.
  • Represent the agency at regional and state meetings providing leadership for the implementation of statewide initiatives.
  • Manage multiple projects efficiently demonstrating strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Utilize technology effectively to enhance teaching learning and daily operations.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and uphold the core values vision and mission of Great Prairie AEA in all professional interactions and responsibilities.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student teacher and staff information.
  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations as well as AEA policies and procedures.
  • Stay abreast of new ideas in the fields of education special education and leadership.
  • Provide leadership and direction for service area personnel.
  • Supervise AEA special education related services personnel including speech & language pathologists occupational therapists physical therapists and other related services staff members.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Regular travel requirements: Frequent travel is required between office locations and school sites within the agencys designated area. Travel often involves multiple trips within a single day and may necessitate extended periods in a vehicle. Occasional statewide or out-of-state travel for conferences training sessions and other professional development events is also expected.
  • Physical demands: In addition to regular standing and sitting the role may involve prolonged periods of walking or standing particularly during site visits or meetings. Occasional lifting and carrying of equipment and materials (weighing up to 25 pounds) is required. This may include setting up for presentations carrying materials to different locations and managing files or supplies. The role also requires sufficient mobility and dexterity to perform office-based tasks including typing filing and other administrative duties.
  • Environmental conditions: Travel and on-site visits may expose employees to varying weather conditions and environments including outdoor settings school facilities and community event locations. The ability to adapt to diverse environments including loud or crowded spaces is important.
  • Visual and auditory requirements: Effective performance in this role requires clear and efficient verbal communication with staff students and community members. Auditory ability is necessary for listening to presentations and participating in discussions while visual acuity is required for reviewing documents digital screens and visual materials.
  • Mental demands: The role requires a high level of concentration attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. The ability to remain organized and flexible amidst frequent interruptions and variable work schedules is essential.

Terms of Employment

The work schedule and compensation will be determined in alignment with Great Prairie AEA policies and subject to board approval.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated based on the Iowa Teaching Standards with AEA Criteria as outlined by the Iowa Department of Education and in accordance with established agency policies for certified staff.
