Job Summary

Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. The selected candidate will also serve in the role of Division Chief of Cardiac Anesthesiology at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia. Expertise is required in the specific area of Anesthesiology with a focus on Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology. Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree. ABA certification with subspecialty certification or board eligibility in Pediatric Anesthesiology and Pennsylvania licensure are required. Rank will be commensurate with experience.

Teaching responsibilities include developing systems for mentoring faculty and staff in the division to promote productive rewarding careers and academic advancement.

Clinical responsibilities include the provision of clinical anesthesia and medical direction in the Cardiac Operating Rooms and other anesthetizing locations at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia. The Division Chief oversees the clinical activities of the Division and coordinates with leaders across the enterprise to optimize clinical operations. The Division supports numerous clinical programs delivering over 3100 anesthetics annually to children with congenital and acquired heart disease in the cardiac ORs catheterization labs and non-OR locations such as MRI.

The non-tenure Clinician Educator track involves a substantial commitment to research and evidence of continuous scholarly productivity reflecting a defined focus is required. The successful candidate will transform the division in pursuit of achieving CHOPs mission of excellence in clinical care education research and advocacy.

The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine maintains a robust well-funded research enterprise encompassing basic science translational clinical and health services research programs that span all areas of anesthesiology and critical care medicine. Operating within the Departments matrixed leadership structure the Division Chief will support the Associate Chair of Research the Associate Chief of Research and the Departments Research Council in advancing the Divisions research and academic missions. The Division Chief will collaborate with these Departmental leaders in developing and fostering collaborative research programs managing infrastructure to support ongoing research efforts allocating academic time and resources and supporting and fostering funded research within the Division and across the Department.

The Division of Cardiac Anesthesiology is in a phase of dynamic growth and expansion and currently includes: 17 Attending Anesthesiologists 7 Cardiac CRNAs 1 Advanced Cardiac Anesthesiology Fellow and 1 Nurse Practitioner.

The Division Chief will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and will work closely with the Physician Practice Director Chief Cardiac CRNA other Division Chiefs Associate Chairs and the Vice Chair
