Overview

The Family Ministries Coordinator is a dedicated leader tasked with discipling youth into a vibrant faith and holy lifestyle advancing The Salvation Armys mission to share the gospel and meet human needs without discrimination through intentional youth ministry.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead engaging youth programs (e.g. Sunday School youth group Junior Soldiers Corps Cadets VBS) that foster fellowship worship evangelism and service grounded in Scripture and The Salvation Armys Articles of Faith.
  • Collaborate with Corps Officers and Local Officers to align youth ministry with the Corps spiritual and evangelical objectives emphasizing soul-winning discipleship and service to humanity.
  • Organize inspiring Sunday School preliminaries (assemblies) ensuring staffed classes and budget compliance.
  • Build Christ-centered relationships with youth families and the community to drive discipleship and outreach.
  • Coordinate attendance and participation in divisional and territorial youth events (e.g. Youth Councils Bible Bowl camps) managing recruitment transportation and fundraising.
  • Ensure youth safety by adhering to KeepSAfe policies and maintaining supervision.
  • Recruit train and mentor adult volunteers to support a faith-nurturing environment.
  • Obtain ServSafe Manager Certificate (within 6 weeks) and CPR/First Aid certification (within 4 weeks).
  • Maintain accurate records and statistics per Salvation Army policies stewarding resources responsibly.
  • Participate in Corps worship and special Sundays to model spiritual maturity.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with seasonal efforts like Christmas/Kettle campaigns.
  • Follow up with youth and families from VBS social services or community activities to integrate them into Corps life.
  • Attend divisional youth meetings and conferences sharing insights with local leaders.
  • Recommend Biblical resources aligned with Arminian-Wesleyan theology and pray with individuals referring complex needs to Corps Officers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support The Salvation Army Butler Corps mission.

  • Pray for the Butler Corps community and assist in discipling its members.
  • Provide pastoral care to youth and adhere to Salvation Army policies and regulations.

EXPECTATIONS:

  • Spiritual Growth - Pursue holiness through daily prayer monthly retreats and accountability with Corps Officers and Local Officers.
  • Leadership - Offer strategic vision and servant leadership adapting to evolving needs.
  • Teaching - Deliver biblically sound lessons and preach 3-6 Sundays annually as scheduled.

Qualifications

  • All three PA Clearances required upon employment and thereafter upon renewal date: PA Child Abuse History Clearance Request for Criminal Record and Fingerprint based federal criminal history.
  • PA Mandated and Permissive Reporting and The Salvation Armys KeepSAfe training required.
  • Passion for The Salvation Armys mission with spiritual maturity and a holy lifestyle rooted in Scripture.
  • Proven ability to lead youth programs with creativity and organization.
  • Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency (e.g. Microsoft Office).
  • Valid drivers license and ability to drive a 12-passenger van.
  • Self-motivated adaptable and available for Sundays and a flexible schedule.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate or Bachelors degree in Youth Ministry Counseling or related field preferred.
  • Minimum two years experience with youth in ministry recreation or education.
  • Prior Salvation Army involvement is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move safely and effectively in a variety of physical positions including walking standing sitting bending kneeling or climbing (e.g. stairs ramps or ladders) as needed for assigned tasks.
  • Capacity to lift carry or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally 30 pounds frequently and 10 pounds consistently.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and repetitive hand movements such as typing grasping or pinching.
  • Visual and sensory acuity sufficient to observe surroundings assess tasks operate equipment safely and communicate clearly.
  • Comfortable working in varying environmental conditions including exposure to hot or cold temperatures such as in a walk-in freezer or outdoor settings.
  • Ability to sustain either sedentary or physically active work depending on the task for extended periods.
