Role Overview:
The Family Education Specialist is a member of the New Journeys team and provides recoveryoriented support to individuals experiencing psychosis and to the support involved in their care. They help participants and their support understand psychosis build skills for managing symptoms and develop skills that promote recovery. This role follows the NAVIGATE model and provides cognitive behavioral therapy and other appropriate interventions to both supports and program participants. Services may be delivered in the office or in community settings where participants and their support feel most comfortable. The position includes case management responsibilities to help participants maintain benefits and access resources essential for ongoing care. This position is an office-based position before meeting clients and supports the community.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Engaging participants and their support in a professional manner with a trauma informed approach.
  • Establish and maintain contact with participants in helping them actively participate or transition to other services depending on their level of involvement and progress within New Journeys.
  • Model and uphold healthy boundaries that support recovery and strengthen the therapeutic relationship.
  • Provide services that respect and honor each persons cultural identity values and lived experience.
  • Attend and participate in treatment planning for all New Journeys participants.
  • Work with the clinical supervisor to set professional development goals and build new skills.
  • Attend agency and program training to meet required annual standards for WAC and professional affiliations including required in-service training and meetings.
  • Manage documentation and paperwork for the assigned caseload in alignment with agency policies.
  • Document all services and participants contacts promptly and accurately.
  • Keep records in compliance with WAC Medicaid Medicare and the New Journeys contract.
  • Provide transportation when appropriate and assist participants in navigating community systems and resources confidently.
What Were Looking For:
  • Masters degree in behavioral sciences.
  • Obtain Agency Affiliated Counselor registration within the first week of hire.
  • Pass required background checks.
  • Current drivers license andautomotive insurance.
  • Ability to transport clients.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Mileage reimbursementat the current IRS standard rate for all approved business travel using your personal vehicle.

Schedule:
For a Family Education Specialist at Valley Cities Behavioral Health the position is dynamic providing opportunities for those who thrive in an ever-evolving environment. Discussion of schedules is encouraged during the interview process from both candidate and hiring manager.
The schedule includes variable shifts including 9:00am-5:30 PM and 11:00am7:30pm to allow the clinician to meet with participants and their families during later hours that better accommodate school work and family routines.
