Job Summary

The Intern for Residential Education at Wagner College will work with professional and graduate staff members in Residential Education. The primary responsibility of this position will be in enhancing the facilities management and turnover process of the addition they will work with other Wagner departments and offices to gain an overall understanding of residential life functions at a small private Liberal Arts institution in New York City.

The intern will have strong involvement with housing and residential life operations specifically in housing operations. The intern will supervise a staff of 6-8 student staff members (Summer Resident Assistants) with the Assistant Director. The intern will work in the office 29 hours per week for the duration of their employment and they will serve as part of an on-call rotation. The intern will also have the opportunity to pursue professional development in any area of Residence Life that interests them. The dates of the position are negotiable but they may begin on May 27 and end on August 1 (dates are negotiable).

Appointment Period

  • On-site program runs from the end of May to early August 2026 (Start and End Dates are negotiable)
  • Training and some preliminary tasks including an online orientation beginning in late April or mid/late May.

Specific Possible Responsibilities Include

  • Oversee the development and implementation of a facilities turnover and inventory process for Residential Education with the Assistant Director.
  • Assist with all items related to summer housing including check-in check-out and housing operations.
  • Provide support to all external programming initiatives and assist with summer conferences as needed.
  • Supervise summer Resident Assistants (RA) in the implementation of facilities turnover spaces.
  • Assist with the summer student conduct process and data reporting.
  • Serve as a Level I Hearing Officer for violations of the Wagner College Code of Conduct.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with Campus Operations.
  • Develop room condition reports for 4 residence halls through our housing software system including communication processes for stakeholders.
  • Participate in an oncall duty rotation with other Summer interns and full-time staff.
  • Complete a full walkthrough of buildings once a week and manage daily submission of round reports for the department.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings including in-hall staff meetings central office meetings committee meetings and division meetings
  • Complete additional administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Director of Residential Education
  • Review and recommend changes for policies and procedures with the Office of Residential Education staff based on research.
  • May be required to assist with summer conferences or other large-scale departmental responsibilities.
  • Participate in online training orientation prior to arrival to campus.

This position is directly supervised by an Assistant/ Director of Residential Education but also has reporting responsibilities to all full time staff members in Residential Education.

Management reserves the right to change position duties in accordance to office/ department/ institution needs.

Compensation

The Summer intern will receive a $4000 stipend for the summer. This will be paid in two payments: $2000 at the end of June and $2000 at the end of July. The intern is also provided living accommodations in an on-campus room. Location is to be addition to use of campus shuttle to Staten Island Ferry the intern will receive a subway card equivalent to 10 subway rides. Finally the intern will receive a full meal plan for the duration of employment at the college.
