Job Summary

CHILD AND YOUTH WORKER

The Child and Youth Worker provides support to students experiencing social emotional and/or behavioural challenges that may interfere with their academic success and overall well-being. Working as part of the school team the CYW promotes a safe inclusive and supportive learning environment while fostering positive relationships among students staff and families.


Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a three-year post secondary child and youth worker diploma program or equivalent plus a minimum of one to two years related job experience in child youth work;
  • Good working knowledge of relevant legislation and the developmental needs of children/youth;
  • Strong knowledge of group work practice and the ability to function effectively in group work;
  • Ability to function independently within the framework of a team.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage caseload duties;
  • Ability to deal with students in a calm compassionate and professional manner;
  • Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Have a reliable vehicle and a valid Ontario drivers license is an asset as travel throughout the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Region may be required;


Duties/Responsibilities

  • Participate as required in meeting the social emotional and behavioural objectives for students;
  • Assist in planning social emotional and behavioral management programs including participation in the delivery to students;
  • Provide support in collaboration with teachers parents and other support services;
  • Assist in implementing therapeutic programs to individual and small groups of students;
  • Provide counseling and crisis intervention to individuals and groups;
  • Observe and monitor students behavior and inform teacher/principal of progress;
  • Liaise with parents and community agencies as required through the Principal;
  • Deliver disciplinary measures in accordance with the Code of Behavior and Catholic values;
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and perform other duties as assigned;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Child and Youth Worker Supervisor.

The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board offers a Christ-centered education to over 13000students from Brant Haldimand and Norfolk counties the City of Brantford Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. The district has approximately 2100 full and part-time staff committed to supporting Belonging Teaching and Learning and Wellness for all.
