Job Summary
Bellevue is known as A City in a Park with a park system comprised of 2700 acres of parks and open space. Bellevues Parks and Community Services Department has a unique opportunity for you as Forest Management Maintenance Aid I Seasonal. The Forest Management Program provides site management of approximately 2000 acres of undeveloped forested open space properties. These properties are geographically distributed throughout the city and consist of upland forests lowland forests steep slopes meadows shorelines wetlands and riparian corridors. These properties are managed for a wide variety of community benefits including recreation wildlife habitat and ecosystem functions such as stormwater retention air and water filtration and carbon sequestration. Were looking for an energetic candidate with the desire to grow and learn within our dynamic work group.
The Forest Management Maintenance Aid I Seasonal performs a variety of manual labor tasks in assistance to fully-trained personnel to repair maintain operate and install basic city or park infrastructure systems and/or support events or activities. Work consists of routine and repetitive tasks processes and/or operations and will be performed cooperatively with other employees and completed in a manner that assures individual coworker and public safety in all weather and working conditions.
Work Hours: Regular work hours are M-F 6:00am-2:30pm. May be assigned to work an occasional Saturday to support scheduled volunteer events.

This is a seasonal non-exempt union position (Teamsters Local #763).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists full-time employees with natural area trail and landscape maintenance operations including mowing line trimming weeding blowing planting installing much watering beaver dam removal and garbage/debris removal including unlawful campsite removal.
- Removal of invasive species pruning chipping and manual vegetation control.
- Work around the general public.
- Work outdoors in forested natural areas environmentally sensitive areas trails and streetscape settings.
- Work with city staff and volunteers
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
- Works under the close supervision of a lead worker skilled worker or other supervisory personnel. Once proficiency is demonstrated individuals in this classification may be assigned to work alone or with minimal supervision during the course of a workday.
- Employees receive direct supervision while on the job site in most cases but the amount of direct supervision required may diminish as proficiency in task performance and equipment operation increases.
- May work independently on the basis of clear instructions.
- Work is to be completed with appropriate efficiency and in a manner that commands the respect of or demonstrates appropriate courtesy to coworkers and the public.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Working knowledge of and familiarity with hand-held power tools and related maintenance equipment.
- Basic mechanical skills and manual dexterity.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance processes techniques and procedures.
- Ability to learn to operate safely the equipment and machinery necessary to perform assigned tasks.
- Ability to listen and understand direction/instruction communicate with team members and respond to customers tactfully and courteously.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or a GED equivalent with 2-4 months of related maintenance labor experience.
- Or any equivalent combination of education experience and training that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
- Exposure/experience adhering to safety rules and procedures is desirable.
- Required to possess a valid Washington drivers license by date of hire. Must have and maintain a good driving record according to city standards. (Proof is required at the time of interview.)
