Job Summary

The Public Engagement Coordinator supports integrated research external relations and communications for a diverse portfolio of City this role you will coordinate the collection and synthesis of input from community partners to support evidence-based decision-making.

What will you do

  • Implement integrated research and communication plans across various initiatives
  • Manage logistical elements of engagement activities including space planning catering and materials preparation for in-person and online events
  • Draft and coordinate responses to public inquiries to ensure clear and consistent messaging
  • Develop engaging content for digital channels and social media to advance project goals
  • Facilitate engagement events including note-taking and on-site coordination
  • Coordinate the production and distribution of communication materials like videos posters and advertisements
  • Track project timelines approvals and deliverables to meet budget and schedule requirements
  • Liaise with internal colleagues and external suppliers to support service delivery
  • Support the preparation of briefing materials presentations and reports

  • Graduation from a two-year college accredited post-secondary institute or technical institute program
  • Coursework in marketing journalism communications or public relations
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in public relations public affairs public information or engagement

Assets:

  • Experience using specialized digital engagement platforms
  • Experience coordinating with external vendors such as printers and event venue owners

Skills required for success:

  • Gather technical information and translate it into accessible materials
  • Manage multiple deliverables and provide quality communication products on time
  • Build effective working relationships with colleagues and collaborators at all levels
  • Written and verbal communication expertise including formal business materials
  • Proficiency with contemporary computer technologies and Google Workspace
  • Listen learn and lead with empathy to achieve results
  • Professionalism and adaptability when responding to feedback and expectations
  • Organization and independent judgment in managing day-to-day task timelines

Conditions of Employment:

  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and there may be a cost associated with this requirement.
  • Applicants may be tested

Work Environment:

  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
  • This role works primarily in an indoor setting.
  • Availability to attend events during the evenings and weekends may be required from time to time.
  • This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs expectations and emotional states.
