Atlantic Union Banks Summer Internship program is a professional development opportunity for local students giving them the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in several risk disciplines. The Risk Analytics & Innovation Internship is a professional development opportunity designed for students interested in learning how data analytics and technology support effective risk management in a financial institution. Interns will gain handsâon experience contributing to initiatives that strengthen the Banks risk posture enhance risk reporting and monitoring and support the ongoing evolution of risk programs.
Throughout the internship students will participate in activities across the Enterprise Risk Division gaining exposure to multiple risk disciplines while developing analytical communication and problemâsolving skills. Interns will receive mentorship training and opportunities to build professional networks as they prepare for future careers in financial services.
This role functions as an entryâlevel Risk Data Analyst support role. Under guidance from risk leadership the intern will help gather data support analysis assist with reporting and participate in departmental projects across the Banks Risk Division.
Position Accountabilities
Interns will participate in a broad range of activities across Enterprise Risk including:
Risk Analytics & Innovation Support
- Assisting with data gathering validation and basic analysis
- Supporting updates to dashboards reports or monitoring tools
- Helping with document processes metrics and data sources
- Contributing to automation or workflowâimprovement tasks (if skills allow)
- Supporting modeling activities such as preparing datasets running simple analytics routines or helping evaluate basic trends that inform risk models
Exposure to Enterprise Risk Programs
Interns will gain exposure to key program areas across the Enterprise Risk Division including:
- Risk Governance learning how policies committees and risk frameworks support consistent risk management
- Financial Risk Management observing how credit market and liquidity risks are monitored and reported
- Operational Risk Management supporting activities related to issues management control assessments and risk indicators
- Enterprise Fraud gaining insight into fraud monitoring detection practices and fraud risk controls
- AML/BSA (AntiMoney Laundering / Bank Secrecy Act) supporting AML/BSA compliance activities monitoring processes and regulatory reporting workflows
The intern may also assist with adâhoc projects tied to risk analytics process improvement or data quality initiatives.
Organizational Relationship
This position reports to the Manager of Enterprise Risk Management - Governance and has a hybrid residency.
Position Qualifications
Education Experience and Position Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Currently working on degree in Statistics Finance Economics Engineering or a similar degree
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university is required and Students must be undergraduates entering their junior or senior year or currently pursuing a graduate level degree
- Must be available to work a 40-hour week Monday through Friday
- Must submit a resume and cover letter highlighting accomplishments professional and academic goals and expectations of this internship position
- Submission of transcripts and two professional or academic references
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong analytical and criticalâthinking abilities
- Interest in risk management data or financial services
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with guidance and within team settings
- Customerâservice mindset and professional demeanor
- Familiarity with Excel; exposure to tools like SQL Python or Power BI is a plus
