Instrumental Music Educator (Anticipated Grades 5-8) Needed
Location: Charlotte Central School & Hinesburg Central School
Champlain Valley School District (CVSD) is seeking a dynamic collaborative and student-centered Instrumental Music Educator (Grades 58) to join our middle-level music programs at Hinesburg Community School (50%) and Charlotte Central School (50%) for the school year. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position shared across the two schools.
Each school day will begin at Hinesburg Community School from 7:4511:00 AM followed by travel to Charlotte Central School for the remainder of the instructional day beginning at 11:25 AM. This shared schedule provides the opportunity to build strong relationships and vibrant instrumental programs in two supportive middle-level communities while maintaining a consistent and collaborative presence in both schools.
Preferred qualifications include holding a Vermont Professional Educators License or eligibility for licensure in Music through the Vermont Agency of Education.
Additional preferred qualifications include:
- Experience teaching instrumental music at the middle level and/or willingness to be trained in relevant pedagogical approaches; familiarity with Orff and/or Feierabend methodologies is a plus though not required
- A strong understanding of experience with and passion for working with middle schoolaged students (grades 58) and their developmental social and emotional needs
- Demonstrated experience establishing a positive inclusive and engaging learning community where all students feel a sense of belonging
- Experience designing and facilitating inclusive and equitable instrumental music opportunities for diverse learners including the use of trauma-informed practices culturally responsive pedagogy and an understanding of anti-bias/anti-racist practices
- Ability to bring positive energy to a collaborative team environment actively participating in a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and celebrating student and colleague successes
- Strong classroom and rehearsal management skills with knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and developmentally appropriate strategies that promote student engagement responsibility and social-emotional growth
- Familiarity with practices such as Responsive Classroom Restorative Practices Second Step Social Thinking or Zones of Regulation is beneficial
- An understanding of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) the instrumental music teachers role within that system and a shared belief that all students can learn and grow
- Experience developing differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners with familiarity with Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
- An understanding of proficiency-based learning learning progressions data-responsive instruction and alignment with the National Core Arts Standards and music literacy
- Ability to effectively integrate instructional technology to support rehearsal practice assessment and student learning
- Strong skills in establishing and maintaining positive professional relationships with students families colleagues and community partners
- Ability to communicate clearly and consistently with families and students regarding expectations progress performances and opportunities
- Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility of mindset and practice with the ability to thrive in a dynamic public school environment
