Description of Work

The Assistant Judicial District Manager I will supervise a part of the unit to include direct line supervision of Chief Probation/Parole Officers (CPPOs) and clerical personnel. Position will perform audits of CPPOs and conduct training of new CPPOs which includes but is not limited to assigning cases coordinating workflow and schedules. Position will ensure staff is properly trained. The Assistant Judicial District Manager may work a reduced CPPO caseload and assist the Judicial District Manager in managing a judicial district.

This position is responsible for assisting the Judicial District Manager (JDM) in managing the district by providing leadership support and guidance. The position will assist the JDM in managing the programmatic and general operations of the district and to provide administrative support to the JDM. Work involves the implementation of strategies and NC General Statutes as they relate to Evidence Based Practices and the Justice Reinvestment Act to achieve departmental goals. Duties include but are not limited to personnel issues judicial services field operations and special operations.

The position may serve on and/or lead community boards and collaborate with outside agencies to support departmental goals and increase public relations in the community and with stakeholders.


Position will assist with conducting internal investigations. This position will be involved with disciplinary dispute and employee performance management. Incumbent may serve as lead interviewer for vacant positions. Position is
responsible for various reports to include but not limited to firearm inspections and inventory.

The incumbent must have demonstrated ability to:
Target offenders needs to ensure quality supervision and appropriate swift and certain responses to noncompliance
Analyze a situation and provide an immediate solution
Develop professional alliances and establish and maintain effective working relationships with officers offenders judicial officials law enforcement officers community agencies the general public and co-workers
Express oneself clearly and accurately in oral and written form
Demonstrate pro-social skill building and problem solving
Establish an appropriate course of action to ensure completion of assigned duties within given time frames
Maintain a calm and rational composure when dealing with difficult situations and individuals and exhibit the ability to focus on the task at hand

Frequent travel is required sometimes involving overnight stays. The successful candidate must have the ability to legally and safely operate a motor vehicle for job related purposes and long periods of time during both day and night
hours and adverse weather conditions.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $52592.00 - $92036.00

This position requires:

  • Foundational understanding of NCVIP processes and related approaches for employee development including coaching mentoring discipline and accountability methods
  • Working knowledge of subordinate staff positions and DAC/DCS goals objectives and policy
  • Working knowledge of the NC General Statutes Post-release Supervision and Parole Commission and Institutions
  • Hands-on experience with case planning structured intervention worksheets and delegated authority; working knowledge of structured sentencing evidence-based practices JRA and motivational interviewing
  • Experience expressing ideas effectively and clearly in written and verbal communication

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree from an appropriately accredited institutionand four yearsof experience as a Probation/Parole Officer or Corrections Administrator in a technical or administrative capacity involved with the application and interpretation of policies and the development of procedures in assigned areaand one yearof experience as Chief Probation/Parole Officer Corrections Supervisor or Corrections Program Administrator in a consultative capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Bachelors degree is a requirement. There isnoequivalencyfor the four-year degree requirement based on N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
