Management Prefers:
Thorough knowledge of design and visual design concepts and practices pertinent to the area of responsibility.

Ability to conceptualize and create visual design solutions from initial concept development through final product delivery.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Design develop and produce professional graphic design assets to support department-wide recruitment education marketing and public information initiatives.
Create and execute visual communications across multiple formats including digital print and presentation materials ensuring alignment with organizational goals and messaging.
Apply and enforce established brand identity standards consistently across all creative deliverables to maintain visual integrity and public trust.
Collaborate with the Public Information Office and cross-functional stakeholders to translate communication objectives into effective visual solutions.
Manage multiple design projects concurrently from concept development through final production ensuring accuracy quality and timeliness.
Provide creative consultation and support to SHP sections leadership and program areas to ensure cohesive visual communication across platforms.
Ensure quality control of all graphic design work reviewing content for clarity consistency and adherence to branding and communication standards.
Position/Physical Requirements
Typical work schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Requires a valid North Carolina Drivers License and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle as assigned by the Department.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in visual/graphic design commercial art or a related area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution;
OR
Associates degree in visual/graphic design commercial art or a related area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of experience related to the area of assignment;
OR
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four (4) years of experience related to the area of assignment;
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Area of Assignment:
Creation and production of graphic and visual design materials to support recruitment training public information marketing and internal communications for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol across digital and print platforms.

The primary purpose of the State Highway Patrols Public Information Office is responsible for the development coordination and implementation of communications strategies and initiatives that advance the Departments mission and support internal and external stakeholders awareness and understanding of the Departments policies and functions. Included in these responsibilities are the management of crisis communications data and records requests and state national and international media inquiries. The office manages the perception and branding of SHP responds to public records requests and coordinates external communications to stakeholders partners and the people of North Carolina. The director and deputy directors regularly must consult with the governors office managers subject matter experts legal counsel and other agency leaders when working on projects program development or topics generating public and media addition there is a continuous effort to educate the public and publicize the many services SHP provides and the exceptional work done by our employees. The role of the Public Information Office is to help ensure that there is consistent and accurate messaging across the Department.
While reporting to the Public Information Office the Graphic Designer position will be responsible for department-wide marketing recruiting and educational efforts through creative design work. The SHP Graphic Designer is expected to have an excellent sense of design and know the role it plays in brand positioning and strategy. As a part of the departments creative team the Graphic Designer is responsible for the overall quality of creative work and drives the creative vision for the entirety of the department.

Veterans and National Guard Preference
Applicants seeking Veterans Preference must attach a DD Form 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty along with the state application.
Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS) along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.
Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22 along with the state application.
