Summary
The Director of Facilities Operations is responsible for leadership and management of custodial and safety operations for the school division. The Director establishes program standards for custodial and safety operations and collaborates with school leaders to address employee performance issues in these areas. The Director leads the development and maintenance of the safety and security plans for each school; serves as the designated Emergency Manager for the school division; and coordinates efforts for safe school facilities through community-wide planning and the design and implementation of protocols for safe structured and supportive school environments. This position will work with the CCS leadership team school leadership and community organizations to ensure a comprehensive well-coordinated network of practices and programs.
Essential Duties:
- Develop and oversee safety and security protocols
- Develop implement and manage comprehensive safety plans and emergency procedures
- Assess potential hazards conduct campus condition surveys and risk evaluations
- Serve as the designated Emergency Manager for the school division
- Serve as primary liaison with law enforcement and coordinate with law enforcement and emergency responders to prepare for and address any incidents that may occur.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant school and workplace safety laws and regulations including all DCJS and OSHA requirements.
- Develop training materials organize and conduct training for school personnel in safety protocols and manage safety equipment
- Assist with video review and serve as the primary point of contact for saving video footage
- Assist with reporting from the access control system
- Oversees and supports changes/adjustments to access control schedules
- Monitors video and access control systems to ensure reliable system operations
- Works with the IT Department and third-party integrators/vendors to maintain enhance and expand operational systems such as surveillance access control visitor management and document management
- Aids district personnel in matters concerning the security of students and staff as well as those involving law violations and/or misuse of property
- Works with each schools Crisis Management Team (CMT) to ensure ongoing team development and effective crisis planning/management
- Evaluates the strengths and challenges of current safety plans policies and procedures
- Oversee the Care & Safety Assistant (CSA) program by ensuring each CSA acquires and maintains DCJS School Security Officer (SSO) certification; providing on-going training; establishing performance protocols and standards; and supporting effective teamwork with each other with administration and with law enforcement
- Oversee and support the School Resource Officer (SRO) program to ensure compliance with program purposes and goals in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as defined in the regulations for School Board Policy KNAJ
- Supervises division custodial staff and works with the Division Head Custodian to support building administrators in supervision of the building custodial staff
- Work closely with the Division Custodial Services Specialist to:
- Develop implement and maintain custodial performance standards
- Identify and implement cost-effective tools equipment and systems to improve custodial operations
- Develop training materials organize and conduct training for custodial personnel
- Assess campus conditions and inform operational decisions during weather events
- Work with the Chief Operations Officer to support processes and improvements as needed across all areas of school operations.
- Complete other related tasks as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelors degree required - Masters or other advanced degree preferred
- Minimum 5 years of professional school-based leadership experience or relevant occupational experience in business and industry in safety or facility services with school-based experience in operations preferred
Physical Conditions and Nature of Work:
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting carrying and pulling.
Work is typically performed in an office setting with frequent visits to school sites and is sometimes performed outside normal working hours. Occasional bending stooping crawling and lifting up to 30 pounds are necessary. Availability and flexibility to respond to emergency/urgent situations and frequent communication with principals employees and the general public are expected.
Evaluation:
The Director is evaluated by the Chief Operations Officer.
