Job Summary

SUMMARY

Under supervision of the Director of Instructional Services the Teacher on Special Assignment assists in the development and implementation of the districts instructional programs; supports and trains academic coaches; develops and presents professional development trainings. The role of Content Expert is a support position and does not include the evaluation of teachers.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Provides support and assistance to all academic coaches and administrators in the full and skillful implementation of the districts adopted instructional programs.
  • Conducts demonstration lessons for academic coaches to insure that all academic coaches have been trained to an advanced level of delivery.
  • Provides professional development for teachers academic coaches and administrators to: insure that all are knowledgeable about instructional program components; understand the instructional design of the program; insure that all are knowledgeable in effective instructional practices strategies and skills to meet the individual needs of all students; and understand academic content standards.
  • Identifies for academic coaches the characteristics of classroom environments which focus on content and learning strategies aligned with district initiatives and expectations.
  • Observes academic coach demonstration lessons and gives appropriate feedback.
  • Serves as a resource for academic coaches for identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students including English learners students with disabilities foster youth homeless and students with diverse learning needs.
  • Facilitates academic coach meetings to discuss issues involving the full and skillful implementation of instructional programs especially the analysis and use of assessment data to improve student achievement including identifying intervention groups and designing interventions.
  • Assists with the development and coordination of the district pacing guides and district assessments.
  • Conducts and/or participates in various district curriculum committees.
  • Conducts site visitations with the academic coaches administrators and district leadership addressing the levels of implementation of district initiatives and expectations observed in the classrooms.
  • Debriefs with the site principal and other personnel involved about recommendations that could be taken to improve instruction.
  • Meets with the Director of Curriculum Staff Development and Categorical Programs and other district leadership to discuss areas of strength and areas of need across the district and to strategize best ways to support full and skillful implementation of the district adopted English language arts and mathematics programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

  • Principles of training and providing work direction.
  • Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws.
  • Current trends and research concerning the growth and development of children.
  • Applicable state advisory documents the State Framework in all subjects taught and district curriculum standards appropriate to assignment.
  • Standardized student testing requirements.

Ability to:

  • Maintain current information and expectations regarding grade level and curriculum being taught.
  • Display the use of sound judgment in making decisions.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students parents colleagues and supervising staff members.
  • Operate a computer and use related devices (projectors audio tablets etc.)
  • Send and receive electronic correspondence and research information online.
  • Read interpret apply and explain rules regulations policies and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable curriculum and academic related regulations.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Understand and be sensitive to and have respect for the diverse academic socio-economic ethnic religious and cultural backgrounds disability and sexual orientation of students faculty and staff.
  • Maintain consistent punctual and regular attendance.
  • Develop and maintain effective interpersonal relations using tact patience and courtesy
  • Create visual presentations integrating video clips audio clips charts and narrative.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in all courses needed to meet credential requirements
  • Professional Clear Multiple Subjects Credential or Life Elementary Credential with CLAD or BCLAD or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Three (3) years successful classroom teaching experience is required.
  • Meet or exceed standard performance ratings on evaluations in the immediate preceding three years.
  • Experience in collaborative planning and delivery of differentiated staff development to classroom teachers.
  • Knowledge of differentiated classroom instructional strategies that promote student success.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Other:

  • Ability to use personal vehicle to travel to other sites/locations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this position must have the ability to:

  1. Sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  2. Enter data into a computer and operate modern office equipment.
  3. Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the phone.
  4. See and read the computer screen and printed matter with or without visual aids.
  5. Speak so that others may understand at normal levels to small or large groups and on the telephone.
  6. Stand walk and bend over reach overhead grasp push pull and move lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds to waist height.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees in this position will be required to work indoors and/or outdoors in an educational and office environment. Employees will come in direct contact with students parents school district staff outside agency staff and the public.

ASSIGNMENT AND SALARY

  • Appropriate placement on the certificated salary schedule.
  • This position is funded fully or in part by categorical programs; program and positions are subject to review on an annual basis.
