Position Overview
A Technical Writer II is responsible for creating editing and maintaining complex technical documentation to support the organizations products services and processes. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams such as engineering product management customer support and marketing to ensure the clarity accuracy and accessibility of technical information for internal and external audiences. The Technical Writer II is expected to have intermediate to advanced skills in technical writing documentation tools and content development as well as a strong ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
1. Content Development:
o Create edit and organize user manuals installation guides online help FAQs release notes and other technical documents.
o Ensure all documentation meets high-quality standards is accurate and is aligned with company branding and tone.
2. Collaboration:
o Work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) engineers developers and product managers to gather technical information and understand complex concepts.
o Participate in product design and review meetings to stay updated on product development and ensure documentation reflects current functionality.
3. Research and Analysis:
o Research technical concepts user workflows and industry best practices to create clear concise and user-friendly documentation.
o Identify gaps in existing documentation and recommend improvements.
4. Content Management:
o Manage documentation repositories version control and publishing processes using tools such as Confluence SharePoint or Git.
o Ensure documentation is consistently updated to reflect product changes new features and customer feedback.
5. Tool Usage and Templates:
o Use documentation tools such as Adobe FrameMaker MadCap Flare Microsoft Word Markdown editors or other software to produce high-quality content.
o Maintain and update templates for consistency across all documents.
6. Quality Assurance:
o Proofread and edit documentation to ensure accuracy clarity grammar and compliance with style guides.
o Conduct usability testing or solicit feedback to improve documentation quality and effectiveness.
7. Project Management:
o Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
o Track progress and report on the status of documentation projects to stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills
1. Education:
o Bachelors degree in English Technical Writing Communications Computer Science or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
2. Experience:
o 3-5 years of experience in technical writing preferably in a technology-driven industry.
o Experience working with Agile teams or in software development environments is a plus.
3. Technical Skills:
o Proficiency in documentation tools such as Windchill Adobe FrameMaker MadCap Flare RoboHelp Markdown editors or similar platforms.
o Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and version control tools (e.g. Git GitHub).
o Basic knowledge of programming languages APIs or software development processes is preferred.
o Experience with AI-based document enhancement organization and training modules will be highly valued.
4. Writing Skills:
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
o Strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy.
5. Soft Skills:
o Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
o Strong organizational and time management skills.
o Problem-solving mindset and adaptability to handle shifting priorities.
6. Additional Skills:
o Familiarity with UX/UI principles or visual design tools is a bonus.
o Knowledge of SEO principles or structured content authoring is a plus.
Work Environment
* Office-based hybrid or remote depending on company policy.
