This temporary position is with NC DNCR Historical Sites located at 430 N Salisbury Street Raleigh NC Wake County.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $21.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

The Dept of Natural and Cultural Resources - Historical Sites is seeking a part time Curatorial Registrar for their Downtown Raleigh location. Duties for this role include but are not limited to:
Preparing forms and maintaining records for new accessions and deaccessions including IRS documentation
Updating information accurately in the collection paper files
Serving as a system administrator for the Proficio database by creating updating and maintaining accurate information
Train staff users in software functions
Generating loan agreements and receipts for both incoming and outgoing loans
Training new Collections Stewards in Historic Sites collections procedures
Serving as courier for loans and performing condition inspections
Assisting as needed with exhibit planning and installations

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

  • Knowledge of museum methods regarding conservation collection design exhibition and interpretation and reference sources as required.
  • Ability to conduct and document research present information effectively and speak before community groups educational institutions and individuals.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively oversee work activities and provide direction to assigned staff including volunteers if functions in supervisory and/or lead worker role.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with others.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in Art History Biology Botany Conservation Education History or Zoology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of museum or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
