Must have ESO Registry experience.

Responsible and accountable for accurately abstracting the clinical and demographic data from patient records and coding this data for injury severity and procedures completed. The trauma registrar reviews patient records in a responsible and ethical manner in order to accurately abstract and enter data into the trauma registry. The Registrar also provides statistical reports from the trauma registry as requested. The Trauma Registrar displays the ability to work independently and collaboratively with the team.

The job duties listed are essential functions of the position. However other duties may be assigned and may also be considered essential functions of the position.

The caregiver must be sufficiently fluent in the English language to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. The degree of fluency required will vary depending upon the nature of the position.

For direct patient care roles:

  • Performs and maintains currency of essential competencies as required by specific area of hire and populations served.
  • Accurately abstracts data through the review of medical records on all Trauma Service patients including the proper assignment of Abbreviated Injury Scoring Injury Severity Scoring and ICD-10 codes.
  • Abstracts all trauma cases including ICU other complex cases and all trauma deaths in accordance with the guidelines set forth by Title 22 American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma and internally. Must maintain a 95% or greater accuracy rate.
  • Ensures timely abstraction within 60 days of patient discharge 80% of the time.
  • Maintains coding accuracy threshold by correctly interpreting analyzing and applying official coding guidelines and principles to each trauma case as stated in #1. Coding accuracy rate is expected to be 95% or greater.
  • Assists in identification and completion of performance improvement activities.
  • Has understanding of computer system and software by maintaining and developing continuous understanding of Trauma Registry software.
    Assists with exporting registry data consistent with data requests and compliance with national (National Trauma Data Bank) state (State of California research studies) local (North Cost EMS) ACS standards for compliance with Level III Trauma Center Status and internal requests.
  • Participates in Trauma Service administrative meetings and Trauma Multidisciplinary meetings as needed.
