Duties and Responsibilities

  • *Serve as primary liaison between Center on Disability Studies (CDS) staff and the administrative division of College of Education (COE) and University of Hawaii (UH) and as primary point of contact for all CDS departmental and external operations.
  • *Serve as the CDS building and telecom coordinator. May include coordination outside of normal office hours.
  • Acquire and dispose of department equipment and supplies.
  • *Oversee administrative operations for the CDS Director by managing specific assignments including new extramural awards and/or leading the full-cycle recruitment of fiscal staff as needed for project support.
  • *Provide general administrative support for projects such as creating purchase orders travel payment and other fiscal processing on the RCUH UH Foundation and Kuali Financial System (KFS).
  • *Stay current on all fiscal policies & procedures and federal & state policies and regulations to provide clear guidance and updates to ensure compliance.
  • *Assist the CDS fiscal authority in coordinating quarterly training sessions for all project fiscal support personnel.
  • Collaborate with the CDS Director and leadership team to identify operational problem areas analyze the issues and develop process improvements that optimize administrative workflows.
  • *Serve as the de facto project manager for all Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii (RCUH) revolving funds; manage and reconcile the general ledger of each account.
  • Serve as the curator of the David Pfeiffer Memorial Disability Pride and Studies Library; catalog and label new publications into the library manage circulation and maintain the upkeep of the physical library.
  • Coordinate the bi-annual CDS assemblies and assist in the fiscal procurement of the annual Pacific Rim Conference.
  • Plan schedule and coordinate National Capacity Building Institutes and workshops and assist with other departmental events.
  • Provide basic copy editing support to the CDS journal Review on Disability Studies.
  • Engage in supervisory work including leading subordinates such as students and graduate assistants manage work priorities and projects and manage employee relations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration Education Social Sciences or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for program management; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of program management as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts principles and methodologies.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws rules regulations and theories and systems associated with program management.
  4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective innovative and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  8. If applicable for supervisory work demonstrated ability to lead subordinates manage work priorities and projects and manage employee relations.
  9. Ability to work before and after normal business hours including weekends and/or holidays.


Desirable Qualifications

  1. Knowledge of disability issues and awareness of methods for providing accessibility for persons with disabilities.
  2. Experience working with Native Hawaiian educators parents and/or students.
  3. Experience with electronic financial systems such as Kuali and RCUH.
