Emergency Medical Technology (EMT)Paramedic Assistant Professor

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.

The instructional assignment will include responsibilities in the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-8) academies as well as in our Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic EMT-P) academies. Other assignments may include instruction in Advanced Cardiac Life support Pediatric Life Support and National Registry Licensing evaluation. Additional instructional assignments may be included as the Paramedic Department develops new courses.

This position is currently 100% instructional but may result in a Coordinator/Instructional split assignment. The proportion of duties assigned to coordination and instruction shall be determined by student department and program needs and may range from 0% to 100% for either function.

The instructional assignment may also include but is not limited to:

Clinical/Field:

• Collaborating with clinical partners and coordinating site orientation.
• Monitoring and managing all clinical/field internship entry requirements.
• Managing or monitoring all clinical/field site orientations.
• Contacting all clinical partners to request and gather staff schedules.
• Contacting each clinical partner member and determining their willingness to precept a paramedic student.
• Confirming schedules with department managers.
• Monitoring EMCE clinical and field student progression data.
• Providing a constant and consistent contact point for clinical/field staff and college faculty.
• Keeping abreast of internal policies affecting student rotations and clinical opportunities.
• Surveying clinical/field staff on the quality of student experiences and providing campus faculty with suggestions on curriculum changes and preceptor expectations.
• Continuing year-round dialogue with campus faculty on contract changes and internal policies.
• Completing end-of-clinical/field internship paperwork for EMCE and COAEMSP compliance audits with each student.

Equipment:

• Providing input during the purchasing of all necessary program equipment.
• Preparing requisitions for all equipment purchasing.
• Locating and securing storage areas and containers for all gear.
• Ensuring all gear inventory meets Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (COAEMSP) accreditation standards.
• Preparing student gear lists for students to purchase off campus.
• Preparing and constantly monitoring all lab equipment for readiness.
• Continuing review of local and regional Emergency Medical Services (EMS) equipment used in the field.
• Integrating local regional and national EMS equipment into lab sessions.
• Inventorying and reporting of all equipment on a semiannual basis.
• Developing long-range planning and ongoing equipment needs proposals.
• Overlooking the effectiveness of all equipment use.
• Coordinating equipment that is needed and used off campus (at fire stations for example).
• Coordinating with the program director and division Dean and developing the equipment budget annually.
• Ensuring that all on-campus equipment is at the correct location for each class during the academic year.
• Coordinating with the campus Allied Health programs on human patient simulation.
• Coordinating gear integration with curriculum development instructional objectives review and all methods of program evaluations.

Other typical duties would include:

• Preparing and providing EMT and Paramedic course lecture.
• Setting up managing and monitoring EMT and Paramedic lab sessions.
• Ensuring standards-based assessment and grading of all students.
• Participating in department meetings.
• Providing the local EMS agency with required course data.
• Learning and utilizing program-approved student data tracking software.
• Learning and utilizing program educational technologies including high-fidelity simulators and VR scenario software.
• Collaborating with department faculty to ensure consistent and comparable instruction in both lecture and lab.
• Participating with local and regional employers during Advisory Committee meetings and employer recruitment events.
• Participating in and managing local and regional clinical placement efforts.
• Tracking and monitoring clinical and field contracts and ensuring all preceptors are qualified and appropriately trained.
• Following the COAEMSP roles and responsibilities assigned to the Clinical/Field Coordinator.

1. Have any bachelors degree or higher ANDtwo (2) years of academic or clinical experience in emergency medicine or prehospital care within the past five (5) years ORany associate degree ANDsix (6) years of professional experience of academic or clinical experience in emergency medicine or prehospital care within the past nine (9) years ORthe equivalent. Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a masters degree.
2. Hold and maintain an active California Paramedic License or NREMT Registry Certificate.
   
3. All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by August 20 2026.
4.
