SUMMARY
The Regional Operations Manager HVAC is responsible for the effective leadership technical oversight and operational performance of a skilled trades team with a strong concentration in HVAC refrigeration and mechanical building systems. This role ensures the safe compliant and efficient delivery of HVAC maintenance repair and project work across the assigned region while driving operational excellence service performance and client satisfaction.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
People Leadership
People leadership responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leads and manages a regional team of skilled mechanical trades
- Provides hands-on technical leadership and guidance related to HVAC systems including preventive maintenance troubleshooting repairs and lifecycle planning
- Responsible for all people management activities including employee engagement training development performance management hiring retention and compensation recommendations
- Ensures strict adherence to health and safety standards specific to HVAC work (e.g. lockout/tagout refrigerant handling confined spaces working at heights)
- Conducts regular toolbox talks and safety briefings with a focus on mechanical and HVAC-related hazards
- Ensures work is performed in compliance with BGIS standards client requirements manufacturer specifications and applicable codes
- Maintains strong technical knowledge of HVAC regulations building codes and refrigerant compliance and ensures technicians remain current and certified
Operations Management
- Oversees HVAC and mechanical operations budgets including labor materials subcontractor costs and work order expenditures
- Plans and deploys HVAC resources to effectively support service calls preventive maintenance programs capital projects seasonal readiness and emergency response
- Ensures HVAC work orders and projects are completed on time.
- Drives operational performance through proactive maintenance strategies reduction of callbacks and root-cause analysis of HVAC system failures
- Collaborates with internal stakeholders to develop refine and implement HVAC-specific processes standards and preventive maintenance programs
- Recommends and implements HVAC technologies tools and CMMS enhancements to improve reliability energy efficiency and system uptime
- Partners with Dispatch and CMMS teams to optimize HVAC service scheduling response times and resource utilization
- Investigates and resolves HVAC-related operational issues with a high sense of urgency to maintain client confidence and comfort
Continuous Improvement & Client Support
- Acts as a subject matter expert for HVAC and mechanical systems within the region
- Supports client discussions related to system performance asset condition and mechanical lifecycle planning
- Drives efficiencies through increased self-perform HVAC work optimized labor loading and improved preventive maintenance compliance
- Ensures consistent delivery of high-quality HVAC services aligned with BGIS operational and safety standards
EDUCATION JOB-RELATED YEARS OF EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION:Community college diploma or equivalent training (e.g. RPA CET)
JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE: 510 years of progressive experience in HVAC or mechanical trades operations
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- 8 to 10 years of HVAC and mechanical trades operations experience
- Minimum 5 years in a supervisory or management role overseeing HVAC technicians
- Strong technical expertise in HVAC systems refrigeration chillers boilers air handling units and building automation systems
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC-related codes regulations and safety requirements
- Proven ability to lead motivate and develop skilled HVAC trades professionals
- Strong operational planning budgeting and performance management skills
- Ability to develop and implement HVAC-specific processes SOPs and maintenance programs
- Strong influencing negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- High level of computer proficiency including CMMS platforms
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
Trade certification in one or more of the following would be considered an asset
- Journeyman Refrigeration License
- Gas Fitter Certification
- Additional HVAC or mechanical trade certifications
