Position Summary
The Art Teacher is responsible for providing high quality visual arts instruction to students in grades 7 and 8 in alignment with the Virginia Visual Arts Standards of Learning. The teacher fosters creativity critical thinking and artistic expression while maintaining a safe supportive and engaging learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Art Teacher shall:
Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate visual arts instruction aligned with the Virginia Visual Arts Standards of Learning
Teach one or more art courses based on documented certification and division needs
Instruct multiple classes of students throughout the instructional day
Develop and implement weekly lesson plans using a variety of instructional strategies and materials
Assess document and monitor student performance and progress
Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student growth and creative development
Maintain a safe orderly and respectful classroom and studio environment
Collaborate with administrators colleagues and support staff to enhance instructional practices
Communicate effectively with parents or guardians regarding student progress as needed
Provide additional instructional support for students requiring remediation or enrichment
Participate in professional development faculty meetings and school related activities as required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of middle school instructional practices and adolescent development
Strong understanding of visual arts concepts techniques and creative processes
Ability to integrate creativity critical thinking and problem solving into instruction
Effective classroom management and organizational skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to use instructional technology and digital tools to support learning
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Virginia teaching license with appropriate Visual Arts endorsement or eligibility for licensure
Prior middle school teaching experience preferred
