Job Summary

Introduction

A well-established medium-sized law firm with offices in Sandton Cape Town and Durban is seeking an experienced Legal Business Developer to join its Sandton office.

This role is ideal for a commercially minded professional who understands the legal industry and has strong experience in tender management bid coordination and client relationship development. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving new business opportunities managing competitive bid processes and strengthening stakeholder engagement across the firm.

Key Performance Areas

Tender & Bid Management

  • Monitor and review new bid and tender advertisements daily
  • Summarise opportunities and distribute qualified leads to Directors
  • Prepare update and maintain tender templates proposals and supporting documentation
  • Coordinate internal approvals and compile inputs for final submissions
  • Track submission deadlines and ensure compliant timeous delivery
  • Maintain tender registers bid libraries and archived documentation
  • Assist with preparation and review of tender packages including:
    • Instructions to bidders
    • Contract documentation
    • General terms and conditions
    • Bid submission forms

Stakeholder Communication & Coordination

  • Liaise with internal departments regarding tender requirements and progress updates
  • Communicate with vendors and external stakeholders including NDAs and confirmations of interest
  • Draft professional written communication for internal teams suppliers and contractors
  • Provide administrative and coordination support related to tender processes
  • Respond to tender and proposal-related queries efficiently

Evaluation Negotiation & Business Development

  • Support tender evaluation processes and assist with contract negotiations
  • Facilitate successful bid implementation through to completion and handover
  • Coordinate collaboration between legal teams and external stakeholders
  • Identify and support new business development opportunities
  • Contribute to strengthening long-term client relationships and market presence

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in legal business development tender management or a similar role
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Marketing Business Administration or related field
  • Essential: Experience working within a legal or professional services environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent presentation and negotiation abilities
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and complex submissions
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
