Overview
The Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University (ODU) invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor in the Research and Infrastructure Service Enterprise (RISE) a research division housed within the Office of Research. We are seeking an innovative and highly motivated faculty member with expertise in health sciences research nursing research and/or clinical research coupled with a strong background in research methods and statistics. This faculty member will play a crucial role in advancing the research infrastructure of the university. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide research methods design statistical and grant writing support to investigators from the ODU Ellmer School of Nursing and Ellmer College of Health Sciences. Faculty members are also encouraged to pursue their own fields of interest apply for grants and continue to publish their research. This position reports to the RISE Director.
Responsibilities
- Provide expertise in research design statistical analysis plans data management data visualization data collection and extraction database design randomization sample size calculation and power analysis.
- Work closely with School of Nursing and College of Health Sciences faculty to guide them through the research process from protocol development and data collection to analysis and publication.
- Foster internal and external collaborations to sustain and expand the research infrastructure at Virginia Health Sciences.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of research methods statistics and bioinformatics training to learners including faculty researchers.
- Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at regional national and international conferences.
- Assist with grant preparation and abstract manuscript and related dissemination efforts.
- Generate reports for internal and external audiences.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D. DrPH or equivalent) in public health biostatistics epidemiology or a related field.
- Demonstrated record of scholarship in health sciences research nursing research and/or clinical research with expertise in study design statistical analysis data management and data visualization.
- Demonstrated expertise in grant writing and proposal development providing strategic guidance and technical expertise to enhance the competitiveness of proposals for external funding.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse colleagues and stakeholders.
- Proficiency with major statistical packages (e.g. R SAS).
- Experience working with both qualitative and quantitative research methods and data.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting clinical and/or medical data.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners clients and colleagues while working collaboratively to achieve shared goals.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects and meet deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to changing work environments work priorities and organizational needs with professionalism and initiative.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Postdoctoral research experience in a relevant field.
- Proven track record of securing external research funding.
- Experience working with large-scale health data such as electronic health records or population-based datasets.
- Experience in developing and delivering research-related training to students residents faculty or other learners.
- Experience working on transdisciplinary teams.
- Experience with survey design and management programs such as REDCap.
