Network Development Engineer , OpsTech Networking Edge

The OpsTech Networking Edge team builds next-generation edge network infrastructure that powers Amazons global fulfillment and operations network. The team manages WAN connectivity SDWAN architecture and edge security for over 3700 sites worldwide supporting Amazon Operations and Grocery businesses.
We are seeking a Network Development Engineer II to design and implement horizontally scalable edge architecture. You will work on initiatives that eliminate current bandwidth constraints by distributing traffic across multiple SDWAN routers and improve network availability through enhanced SDWAN designs that enable cloud-based firewall integration. Your work will directly impact network capacity planning circuit availability improvements and the migration of over 1000 SDWAN sites to more resilient architectures.
As an NDE II on the Edge team you will solve complex technical problems involving Cisco SDWAN technology AWS Transit Gateway CloudWAN integration and Direct Connect circuits. You will design solutions that are scalable testable maintainable and efficient. Information security and network reliability are fundamental to your approach. You will work autonomously on major portions of edge network technology implementation applying best practices while making pragmatic trade-offs that consider both short-term operational needs and long-term business requirements.
You will operate the largest fulfillment network in the world working with technologies including IPSec encryption application-aware routing automated traffic controllers and AWS Network Firewalls. You will leverage AI-powered tools to enhance network operations including agentic AWS AI tools for automation diagnostics and operational efficiency. You will collaborate with customers and stakeholders to develop project ideas into project plans participate actively in design reviews and operational reviews and mentor team members. Network reliability is essential to Amazon Operations and your responsibilities include driving root cause resolution of network events most impactful to the business.
The OpsTech Networking organization supports multiple business units globally from delivery stations in emerging markets to advanced automated fulfillment centers in North America Japan and Europe. This group works on both tactical improvements and long-term strategic projects. - Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering a related technical field or equivalent
- Three or more years of experience designing and operating large-scale production networks
- Three or more years of experience with major routing protocols specifically BGP and OSPF
- Three or more years of experience with routing and switching hardware from major vendors including Cisco and Juniper
- Demonstrated ability to design implement and operate network solutions that are secure stable testable and maintainable
- Strong documentation skills with proven methodology for creating clear technical documentation
- Experience building or enhancing tools developing best practices refining operational procedures and thinking proactively with innovation
- Ability to work effectively on diverse teams with diverse coworkers

- Experience with SDWAN technologies particularly Cisco SDWAN
- Experience with AWS networking services including Transit Gateway CloudWAN Direct Connect and AWS Network Firewalls
- Experience with AI-powered tools for network automation diagnostics and operational efficiency including agentic AWS AI tools such as Kiro
- Experience in automating network administration using Python or other programming languages
- Development and delivery of large-scale designs in data center or edge networks
- Experience with IPv6 design and implementations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to collaborate across organizations
- Proficiency in wide area networking including SDWAN MPLS and Internet connectivity
- Experience with network automation and orchestration tools Understanding of information security principles for network infrastructure
- Experience with capacity planning and bandwidth forecasting for large-scale networks
